Is it just me or are the Bronx Bombers somehow “quietly” off to a 10-3 start? Maybe everyone just expects that type of production early on. They’ll send Phil Hughes to the hill tonight and hope to provide the youngster with the same type of run support he enjoyed his last time out.
Hughes walked five batters and allowed two runs over five innings but rode six runs from his teammates to victory.
Reclamation project Ben Sheets gets the nod for Oakland tonight.
His once-excellent control has eluded him so far this season but he hasn’t picked up a loss and has battled out of jams to post a 2.65 ERA. 
Against the patient, powerful Yankees, however, Sheets can’t afford to miss his spots tonight. Erratic Gio Gonzalez learned that the hard way last night.
Sheets has only faced the Yankees once in his career, tossing seven scoreless innings, but that start isn’t relevant right now.
We have to treat this Sheets as a new pitcher given his uncharacteristic control problems.
I don’t think he’s ready to handle New York just yet.
