Sure, they’re still in the hunt, but the ride has been rocky, with injuries to starters like Brad Penny and Albert Pujols perhaps playing the worst baseball of his career (even though it’s still All-Star caliber).
Can Adam Wainwright right the ship against the lowly Mariners tonight? He’s been dominant all season but he wasn’t himself in his start.
In a loss to the Dodgers, Wainwright walked five hitters.
He hadn’t done that in a start in almost 14 months. 
Even if Wainwright struggles again tonight, he’ll probably be better than Luke French. Just a stopgap during Doug Fister’s DL stint, French simply isn’t very good.
In his one other start this season, Texas bullied him for four runs and seven hits over 5 2/3 innings.
Unless something is seriously wrong with the Cardinals, tonight should be batting practice for them.
