2010 Major League Baseball NLCS- Game 4 Preview

Philadelphia Phillies vs San Francisco Giants
Thursday, Oct. 21   7:57 P.M. (ET).
Philadelphia         -120
San Francisco      +105
Over/Under 6

The Philadelphia Phillies will try and stave off elimination in this best-of-seven NLCS Game 5 at AT&T Park in San Francisco with the Giants holding a 3-1 series lead after a dramatic 6-5 win in yesterday’s Game 4. First pitch is scheduled for tonight at 7:57 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast live on FOX.

The San Francisco Giants have pushed Philadelphia to the brink of elimination with wins in three of the first four games of this series. Behind rock-solid pitching and the heroics of players like outfielder Cody Ross and rookie catcher Buster Posey the Giants are one win away from ending the Phillies two year reign as National League champs.

Philadelphia finally found some offense in last night’s game, going up 4-2 in the fifth, but its bullpen could not hold a lead as the game remained tied at five heading into the ninth inning. After running through a series of pitchers, the Phillies turned to starter Roy Oswalt to try and take the game into extra innings in hopes they could generate a winning run of their own. It was not meant to be as after Aubrey Huff opened the inning with a single, Posey came through with a clutch hit to move the winning run to third. Juan Uribe finished things off with a sacrifice fly to send Huff home with the game-winning run.

In a rematch of Game 1 the Phillies will send its ace Roy Halladay to the mound while the Giants counter with theirs; Tim Lincecum. Halladay was not his usual spectacular self the first time out as he gave up eight hits and four earned runs in seven innings of work. Two of those runs were solo shots by Ross. With the Phillies bats remaining relatively quiet all game long, there was enough damage done for San Francisco to take Game 1 by the score of 4-3.

Lincecum also gave up a couple of long balls but all-in-all remained solid through seven innings as well. He ended the game giving up six hits and three earned runs which was good enough to secure the win.

The odds are stacked against the Phillies in this series as only six teams out of 30 have ever come back from a 3-1 deficit to win the NLCS, but with Halladay on the mound they should be able to force a Game 6 back in Philadelphia on Saturday. Lincecum is good, but will he be able to match the intensity and yes desperation that the Phillies will bring into this game?

You saw it yesterday with the Yankees in their 7-2 win in Game 5, as a true champion never goes down quietly.
