L.A. Dodgers (15-18 through May 7)
Jon Garland (1-2, 3.81)

The Dodgers lost to the Mets 6-3 last night, have lost 3 in a row, and they are only 3-7 in their last 10 games. Andre Ethier has a 30-game hitting streak and the Dodgers rank 10th in the Majors in batting average, but you have to score runs to win and L.A. only ranks 24th in the league in runs scored. Last night’s game was a perfect example of what is wrong with the Dodgers this season, as they had more hits than the Mets, but stranded 11 runners on base. Matt Kemp leads the team in RBI with 21, but no other player has more than 17.

Jon Garland is the probable starter for the Dodgers tonight and while he pitched decent in his last start giving up 3 earned runs in 6 innings if work he got no run support in a 7-0 loss. He is 1-1 with an ERA of 3.00 in 4 career starts against the Mets. In tonight’s game Andre Ethier looks to tie the longest hitting streak in Dodgers’ history. Look for him to do it in this game since he is 12 for 29 with 2 doubles and 6 HR against probable New York starter Chris Young.

New York Mets (14-18 through May 7)
Chris Young (1-0, 1.88 ERA)

The Mets have showed some signs of life lately winning 2 straight and going a decent 5-5 in their last 10 games. Still, they are in the basement of the NL East trailing the Phillies by 7.5 games. There is no place like home right? Well, not for the Mets, who are only 7-10 in the Big Apple so far this season. Their offense ranks 15th in the league in runs scored, but the reason for the Mets’ struggles has been their pitching. They rank 19th in the Majors in team ERA, 26th in opponents’ batting average, and rank 29th in WHIP. However, they have only given up 7 runs in their last 3 games. Bet on MLB at BetOnline

Chris Young has been solid in 4 starts this season and in his last outing he did not give up any earned runs in 7 innings, but got no run support in a no-decision. He may want to pitch around Ethier, who has not only hit him hard in his career, but in Young’s last outing against the Dodgers in 2009 he was 2/3 with 2 solo HR. In his last 6 starts against the Dodgers Young is only 1-3 with an ERA of 5.45.

New York SS Jose Reyes is hitting .400 over his last 6 games and he went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 triples and 2 runs scored in last night’s win over L.A. In his career Reyes is 5 for 6 with a triple off probable Dodgers starter Jon Garland.

MLB Trends:

LA is 1-5 in their last 6 games.
LA is 0-4 in Garland’s last 4 road starts.
NY is 6-2 in their last 8 home games.
NY is 3-9 in their last 12 home games against a right-handed starter.
NY has an Over record of 4-1-1 in their last 6 home games.
LA is 6-2-1 in Garland’s last 9 starts on grass.

The pick:

Young has been pitching well as of late and the Dodgers’ offense is really sputtering only averaging 2 runs in their last 5 games. I think Ethier will get the press extending his hitting-streak tonight, but the Mets will win the game as the home favorite.

Dodgers vs Mets prediction: Mets 6, Dodgers 2
