The Yankees come in treading water as they get set to begin a weekend series against the Atlanta Braves Friday night.

New York dropped their final 2 games against the Astros as they were knocked around 15-1 and then 6-2 in the finale to drop the series.

In their home stand, New York dropped 3 of 4 to Cleveland and 2 of 3 to Houston. With that, they now sit 1.5 games out of 1st place in the AL East. After leading by 6.0 games around the trade deadline, Toronto has completely taken over control of the AL East.

New York will throw ace Masahiro Tanaka who has been the most reliable starter for New York in a struggling rotation this season.

Countering him will be RH Williams Perez, who has been a mess this season.

First pitch is set for 7:35 PM EST.

New York Yankees

The Yankees are quickly letting the bottom fall out of their AL East hopes as they now sit 1.5 games off the pace as Toronto continues to surge, while the Yankees fade.

New York finished off their home stand with just a 2-5 record and averaged 2.6 runs over that span of games.

The Yankees most reliable hitter, Brian McCann will making his return to Atlanta, where he spent his first 9 seasons of his career. In 2013, McCann decided to sign with the Yankees.

The Yankees will try to get themselves back on track with RH Masahiro Tanaka on the hill. When the Yankees spent endless amounts of money to sign him, having him play stopper in games like these was the main reasoning behind it.

Tanaka looked to be gaining momentum himself after throwing a complete game against the Blue Jays, but was stumbled up against the Indians on Friday.

Tanaka allowed 4 runs (3 of those earned) in a 4-3 loss, his 3rd over his last 5.

This will be his first career start against the Braves.

Atlanta Braves

The Braves know just how the Yankees have felt lately. They’ve been enduring what the Yankees are currently in all season long.

Atlanta has dropped 9 of 10 and are allowing 6.1 runs against during that span as they sit 19 games under .500 on the season.

Those numbers get even worse with a bigger sample size as Atlanta has dropped 13 of 16 and are averaging 2.8 runs a game during that span. Atlanta dropped 2 of 3 against Colorado in their past series.

[dfads params=’groups=63745&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]

Atlanta will go with RH Williams Perez, who has been abysmal lately.

Perez has a 6.88 ERA over his last 6 starts and hasn’t made it into the 5th inning in half of those starts. He allowed 6 runs in 4.2 innings last time out against the Cubs.

Since coming off the DL on July 31st, Perez is 0-4 over 5 starts with an ERA of 7.98.
