Meanwhile, Detroit (34-28) hasn’t looked its best as of late, despite being in first place in the AL Central.

The Tigers are 3-7 in their last 10 games, but are coming off of a win in Chicago and return home where they are 16-15 this season.

The Tigers will try to neutralize the Twins offense by sending Drew Smyly to the mound in game one. The right-hander got his first win after several consecutive losses in his last start. For the season Smyly has allowed 53 hits and 23 earned runs while striking out 49, and is 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA in 13 appearances against the Twins.

Minnesota will counter with Kyle Gibson who is coming off of a win in his last start. The righty has allowed 66 hits and 30 earned runs this season, while striking out 35 over 69 innings and has remained dominant at home, improving to 4-1 with a 1.54 ERA at home, after a 8-0 rout of the Houston Astros.

He did however, get pounded for six runs on seven hits over a career-low two innings in Detroit earlier this season.
