Los Angeles

OF Mike Trout continued his super sophomore campaign with a home run but the rest of the lineup was mostly silent as the Angels fell further behind the division leading A’s.

Trout and slugger Mark Trumbo are leading the club but at least they are getting some production from 1B Albert Pujols who seems likely to finish with another 30/100 season.

Though his numbers are not terrific, Garrett Richards has been an important part of the Angels pitching staff this season. He has been pitching primarily in relief but he has made a few starts and they weren’t terrible. As a reliever he has been OK with a few bad outings having jacked up his ERA some.

He hasn’t pitched much against the A’s but his one start against them was not very good. To give you an idea of how bad he has only 10 innings against Oakland for his career and recently pitched a couple of scoreless frames to drop his ERA to 6.10.

You can imagine what it was before that. Not a great option for L.A. or you on Saturday. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Oakland

Oakland won at home again on Friday as the amazing Bartolo Colon joined the Major League Leaders in wins with 14 via another strong performance. For some reason he just owns Angels lefty slugger OF Josh Hamilton.

SS Jed Lowrie supplied the power last night but the A’s are hoping that OF Josh Reddick’s two hits are a sign of more to come as he has been awful all season long across the board, especially at home where he is hitting a paltry .197.

If he can get going their offense would have a big lift and they could use it.

Lefty Tommy Milone got a 12 day break between outings with the All-Star break and it seems to have done him some good because his last outing before was his shortest of the season. With Milone on the hill the A’s have won 4 of their last 5 but I think he will be happy to be back at home where his numbers are much better.

With all of the extra grass at o.co Coliseum his ERA drops by a run and a half and the A’s win two thirds of the time.

Milone’s peripherals are not good against the Angels but he has a winning record against the division rivals at 3-2

Last night’s game is the formula the A’s are looking to repeat tonight.

Its simple really, just get a some good starting pitching, launch a couple of homers and then let the bullpen close it out. I think it will happen again to the fading Angels who have now dropped below Seattle in the standings.

Oakland is a very good bet at home and there is fair value on them today.

O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: Oakland 5 – Los Angeles 3
