Johan Santana may get the headlines but it is R.A Dickey who has been propelling the Mets to their unexpected start. With 9 wins and a sterling ERA the case could be made that he has been the best pitcher in the National League this season. Knucklers can be hard to predict though and his numbers against Tampa for his career are atrocious (ERA of 8.35). Good value but still a long shot here. The Tampa Rays entered Tuesday tied for first place in the tough AL East. They have won four in a row heading into last night’s action and were looking to add to that in the series opener against New York with a 2-1 early lead. Good thing the pitching has been strong because without Ben Zobrist, Evan Longoria and now Luke Scott this team is really lacking for offensive punch.
On the mound starter David Price is leading an impressive group of hurlers. He is on pace for his best season in the Majors and has given up more than 3 earned runs in a start just once all season long. How is that for quality? He has been absolutely lights out at home with an ERA under 1 and a BAA of .177. The Mets lineup is hardly a murderous bunch so I expect that dominance to continue.
