Seattle
Waiting until the 9th to get on the scoreboard wasn’t a great winning strategy as they dropped the decision 6-1, wasting a mediocre outing by Jason Vargas who is developing some very polar home road splits.
Seattle is not very good this year and Boston will be looking to expose them again in this short 2 game series.
Starter Blake Beaven looks intimidating until he starts throwing. The 6’7” righty just doesn’t miss enough bats to be successful and has been hammered by the Red Sox in the past. Little reason to think this time will be any different, although they are missing some key bats right now.
Seattle needs the good times to keep rolling with outfielder Mike Carp who has homered against Boston starter Josh Beckett in the past. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]
Boston
Boston is looking to grab another easy victory against Seattle before hitting the road against Tampa and Philadelphia later in the week. If they are going to get back into the race they need to take advantage of every soft spot on the schedule they can.
This team is walking wounded right now and has to be hoping they can make a surge when and if players like Carl Crawford and Jacoby Ellsbury come back.
There is definitely going to be attention every time Josh Beckett takes the mound this year.
As if last season wasn’t bad enough with the wings and beer ,now the dude is golfing when he is supposed to be rehabbing. His numbers this year have not been good and he got absolutely hammered last time out.
This seems like a good value spot to take a chance on Seattle or pass. You can’t be comfortable backing Beckett these days.
O/U Pick: Over
Score Prediction: Seattle 6 – Boston 5
