Houston and Colorado meet inside Minute Maid Park in Game 1 of this weekday series. The series will kick off with two game in Houston on Monday & Tuesday and then shift to Colorado for games 3 and 4. Houston put the brakes on their losing skid with a weekend series win over the Mariners.

For the Rockies, they come in following a win, but that win avoided a 4 game sweep at the hands of the Miami Marlins.

Colorado Rockies vs. Houston Astros

The Rockies we’re just kind of hanging around in the NL West standings for the entire season thus far. However, their recent struggles have put them in last place in the NL West and 8.5 games back in the standings. They’ll look to right hander Chad Bettis, who owns a 2-1 record this season.

Colorado has won in 5 of 6 of Bettis’ starts. The lone lost came last time out as he went 5.0 innings allowing 3 runs, but couldn’t get any run support in a 4-2 loss.

Bettis has been one of the most reliable pitchers in a shaky Rockies’ rotation which comes as a surprise because of his career struggles as a starter.

The Rockies offense has been the main blame for their recent losses as they manufactured 2 runs in a 3 losses to the Marlins over the weekend.

They’re averaging just 3.48 runs away from Coors Field.

As for the Astros, people were expecting them to fade back to the pack and come back down to reality. They lost 7 straight and it looked like they were doing just that. However, they took 2 of 3 from the Mariners over the weekend, which included a game that saw them knock Felix Hernandez around and not allow him to get out of the first inning.

Looking to continue their success from the weekend, they’ll send ace Dallas Keuchel to the hill.

Keuchel is 0-1 in his last two starts but has pitched well enough for wins in both. He’s gone 6.0 and 7.0 innings allowing 2 runs in both, but got just 2 runs of support in both.

Keuchel has dominated at home as he’s 5-0 with a 1.29 ERA in seven starts.

Even with their 7 game losing streak, Houston sits in first place in the AL West up 2.5 games on 2nd place Texas.
