The two worst teams in the league connect to start the week. A few games separate them but they may feel like miles apart.

Milwaukee

The season is pretty much over but things don’t seem to be getting worse for Milwaukee.

They are coming into Philadelphia off of back to back series wins over the Mets and Twins, two better than .500 clubs.

If they were in any division other than the NL Central they might have a chance at respectability but with a slew of future games against the Cardinals, Pirates and Cubs it is going to be hard for them to improve on their position.

They have to take care of business at Philly or they will be the bottom of the league.

Jimmy Nelson is rare compared to other pitchers on the Milwaukee staff.

His numbers are actually slightly better than they were a year ago (though still not good enough to overcome the team’s struggles).  His last start was his best as he pitched 8 strong innings against the Mets.

The problem is that it was against the Mets. Philadelphia might not be that much more of a challenge.

Philadelphia

The Phillies still have the worst record in the Majors but that could change if they get their act together against Milwaukee.

The Phils are almost decent at home at only three games under .500 but this team has a ton of holes and is looking to deal ace Cole Hamels to fill some.

I feel like the team is waiting for it to happen and that is not helping their play at all.

They somehow salvaged one game against Washington over the weekend. Every once in a while their bats erupt.

Sean O’Sullivan has been hit hard all season.

He has bounced around a lot and even though the Phils don’t have great alternatives he might not have too many more chances after giving up four homers to the Yankees in his last start.

That is the second time this season he has done that, on the road against both New York teams. Weird, especially against the Mets.

Normally he would be a fade without even thinking but against this Milwaukee team, who knows.

I don’t know how you can make the Brewers such decisive favourites here.
