The Houston Astros brought their impressive league best road record to Detroit on Thursday, but it didn’t help as they fell in Game 1 to the Tigers. Now they will look to get back on the rails on Friday, as they play the second of a four-game set in Detroit.

Houston (27-15) arrived in the Motor City coming off a 7-2 homestand and off to its best road start (12-4) in the team’s history. But the Tigers (25-17) ruined it all, as James McCann hit a walk-off homer in the 11th inning to give Detroit a 6-5 win.

It was the Astros third road loss in four outings.

Nevertheless, Houston is still leading the division and will look to better its 3-11 record at Comerica on Friday, by sending right hander Collin McHugh (5-1, 4.09 ERA) to the mound in Game 2.

McHugh is 4-0 with a 2.39 ERA in his last eight road starts. He won his last outing, 4-2 over Toronto, allowing just two runs over seven innings.

He will need to be cautions against the Tigers however, who have tallied 11 runs over the past two days.

The extra-inning win in Game 1 was the team’s 10th win in its last 12 meetings with the Astros in Detroit.

Helping the Tigers try and keep that trend alive, will be starter Alfredo Simon (4-2, 3.04), who is looking for his first win in five outings after allowing two runs over six innings in a 2-1 loss against the Cardinals on Sunday.

The right-hander is 2-0 at Comerica with a 1.25 ERA in three starts. The 2014 National League All-Star is 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA in four all-time relief appearances versus Houston.

Matt’s Free 4* Prediction

Detroit — The Tigers have been scoring a ton of runs of late, thanks to the like of Yoenis Cespedes, who went 6-for-6 in the last two games and Nick Castellanos who has a homerun and six RBIs in the last two.

Couple that with how well Simon has pitched at home, and how good he has done versus the Astros in the past, and the Tigers take this one.
