Two teams who look to be at different positions when it comes to buying or selling before the deadline get ready to do battle in the rubber match of their 3 game series. The Cardinals will likely be adding a piece or two to solidify their chances, while the Reds have already started to ship key pieces out.

Cincinnati Reds

The Reds got another giant contribution from 1B Joey Votto as he knocked a 3 run home run on Tuesday’s 4-0 Reds win. Votto has been scorching hot since the break as he’s 23 for 41 with 4 homers and 13 runs since the break.

He’ll look to continue his success against the Cardinals as he’s already hit 4 home runs against the Cardinals alone this season.

The Reds will go with RH Anthony DeSclafani in the rubber match. The RH has been abysmal over his last 7 starts as he’s gone 0-3 over that span. He allowed three runs in the Reds loss to Colorado on Friday.

He’s faced the Cardinals for just one inning in his career as he appeared in a relief stint and threw a scoreless frame. Reds SS Eugenio Suarez will look to extend his hitting streak to 10 games Wednesday night. The SS is 14-41 with four runs batted in during the hitting streak.

St. Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals have used their play inside Busch Stadium this year to get to where they’re currently at. At home this year, the Cardinals show a 37-14 S.U. record and are averaging 3.76 runs per contest compared to just the 2.91 they’re allowing.

On Wednesday, they’ll go with RH John Lackey. The Cardinals RH has allowed two runs or less in 8 straight starts and is clicking on all cylinders. He’s 5-1 during this 8 game span and is coming off a solid winning pitching performance against the Royals last time out.

He’s also had great success against the Reds in his career going 2-0. He’s faced them once this season and received a ND as he allowed 4 runs on 4 hits.

Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong will look to continue his success against the Reds as he’s already hit a Grand Slam in the series and is 8 for 24 in his career against them.
