The Angels quietly went about their business last season and won the AL West fairly easily.

The Mariners missed the post season by just one game a year ago and will be looking to improve upon that this year. The Mariners took the season opener between these two and would like nothing better than to jump out to an early head start on the Angels.
Los Angeles (CJ Wilson)
The Angels will take the field with CJ Wilson on the bump tonight, hoping for a fresh start after the worst season of his career a year ago. Wilson posted a 4.51 ERA and walked an AL- leading 85 batters in the process.
The lefty has a very respectable 15-8 record lifetime against the Mariners with a 3.52 ERA. The Angels’ bats were pretty silent yesterday in their opener, with Mike Trout’s solo homer in the first inning accounting for the lone Angels’ run. LA managed just four hits on the game, but that’s commonplace against one of the best pitchers in the game in Felix Hernandez who was absolutely locked in yesterday.

The Angels’ bats will need to wake up tonight as it looks like Seattle is swinging it well already after roughing up Jered Weaver for eight hits and four runs through six innings in the opener.
Seattle (James Paxton)
The man on the mound tonight can be a real x-factor for this Mariners team and their playoff hopes may hinge on his ability to stay healthy. When Paxton is on he’s devastating, but injuries have pushed the pause button on his so far brief MLB careers. The lefty has been beleaguered by injuries and was not particularly good in Spring training.
In the field and at the bat this Mariners team is very talented and can go toe to toe with just about anyone. Any lineup that can throw Robinson Cano, Nelson Cruz, Dustin Ackley and Kyle Seager at you and complimented by Austin Jackson at the lead off, this team has bats to go around and can do a lot of damage in the middle of the order.

Bullpen is the only minor concern with this team with Fernando Rodney closing who can be somewhat of a wildcard. The middle and late relief is decent with guys like Charlie Furbush and Danny Farquar but they’re going to be pretty reliant on their starters getting deep into games and building a comfortable lead.
Angels vs. Mariners 4* Free Pick
Lefty vs. Lefty on the mound tonight and in these ones I like to glance at who has the better right handed batters and in this one it’s hard to go against the Angels. Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, David Freese and Erick Aybar are all solid righties who will challenge Paxton tonight. Seattle’s best bats are mainly lefties with Cano, Ackley and Seager, while Cruz is the lone power bat from the right side.
Go with the Angels to win this one.
