Baltimore

As it stands they are 1.5 games back of the Texas Rangers in what is going to be a dogfight of a race the rest of the way and the O’s will have a tougher schedule in September playing mostly teams from their division. They need another strong series by the bay.

Chris Tillman is far from the best starter in the American League but there is only one starter who has more wins than his 14. Despite not dominating Tillman has become a huge winner, in fact the Orioles have 12 of his last 13 starts so if you were blindly backing him you would be doing very well.

His numbers are actually better on the road than at home and facing a mediocre Giants lineup should enable that to continue – he is 7-1 on the road this season as he continues to add to his career season.

San Francisco

Its too little too late in San Fran for the Giants. There are lots of disappointing teams out there this season but these guys are a peculiar case because of how much success they have had recently, winning two of the last 3 World Series. [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

The pitching just never came together like it has in the past this season, even though Tim Lincecum has been rebounding of late including getting the win against Milwaukee last night. They are entering this series on a positive note at least.

On Friday night the Giants are going with Ryan Vogelsong, straight off the disabled list. The reclamation project from a few years back had been mostly terrible this season yet was oddly superb in his last go before landing on the DL. He hasn’t pitched in more than two months so it is really anyone best guess what we might see.

His margin for error with his stuff was always slim so if he is not all the way back he might not give the Giants much of a chance against a good offensive team like Baltimore.

Given everything about this game I think there are two great plays to make. The first is to back the Orioles and the second is to bet the over – I am not sure which I like better to be frank. If I had to choose I would say the over.

Tillman is far from a shutdown guy and Vogelsong has to be a little bit rusty. Surprised the total is as low as it is.

O/U Pick: Over
Score Prediction: Baltimore 6 – San Francisco 3
