Baltimore Orioles (13-9) vs Oakland A’s (13-10)

The falloff that everyone was expecting from Baltimore hasn’t happened…yet. Right now they are being sustained by a fantastic start from slugging first baseman Chris Davis, who is in the top 3 in the Majors in homers, RBI and average.

Baltimore

They are playing a bunch of one run games again this season and are killing it there so you could argue there is room to grow from their performance thus far this season.

Lost amidst everything Baltimore did last season was the first year performance of starter Wei-Yin Chen. Certainly not the highest touted Asian import the Taiwanese lefty made 30+ starts for a team that made the playoffs. The numbers weren’t fantastic but he was solid.

Most interestingly he was extremely sharp against Oakland with a 2-0 record and an E.R.A. of just 0.71.

The free swinging A’s just couldn’t layoff with 16 punchouts in just 12 innings.

Oakland

Last year’s other surprise team – the A’s – are also proving their performance was no fluke, though fewer thought their pitching fueled performance was. They have slowed since a hot start but are in second place in the division right now.  [dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Like Baltimore they could also have some room to improve given that their best pitcher has been Bartolo Colon so far and their homer leader, Coco Crisp – trends that are likely to change. Long live the Indians.

Oakland starter Tommy Milone just gets the job done. He doesn’t dominate hitters and give up too many hits but he was 13-10 last year and has a 3-1 record so far this season as a follow up. He has just 1 career start against Baltimore but it was a good one and a win.

Milone was hit pretty hard by Tampa in his last outing but he tends to throw much better in Oakland’s home park, the oddly named O.co Colisseum.

Nice value on the favourite A’s this evening. Milone is way better at home than on lineup will give him enough support to grab a victory to start this underrated series.

Since today marks the start of many series I would suggest also looking at the series price in this one between two second place teams.

O/U Pick: Over
Score Prediction: Oakland 6 – Baltimore 5
