Wake Up Maggie – – 5/2 morning line
The morning line chalk is perfectly placed in this restricted stakes. Wake Up Maggie has won Grade 3 races at both Lingfield and Goodwood and has showed at a Grade 1 race at Newmarket. That makes her the horse to beat in this race. Also, check out her trainer – – Julio Canini. Canini knows what to do with these European types. He gave this mare a tune-up race down the hill at Santa Anita where she had to go 5 wide before losing by 1 ¼ lengths. The extra furlong and a half should definitely be to her liking in this affair. Canini also put three solid works into her since her last, she gets Joe Talamo back, and there just isn’t anything else in her who is as classy as this gal.
Spenditallbaby – – 7/2 morning line
This daughter of Unusual Heat deserves a look every time she steps onto the track. She returns to the turf after winning a $150,000 stakes on the cushion-track, but her turf form is about as good as her dirt and cushion-track form. Trainer Barry Abrams is winning at a 29% clip and this girl definitely has the ability to add to his total. Eight in the money finishes in fourteen races on the turf says that she has the ability to win this thing.
Persian Express – – 6/1 morning line
This five-year old has knocked on the door in all three of her starts stateside. She might kick the door down in this race. Her form is actually very good and her speed ratings are better then any other horse in this thing. The knock, of course, is that she just hasn’t gotten it done for the win. That might all change with turf specialist Brice Blanc on her back. She’s a live long-shot in a race with all of the other horses will be within a few betting points of one or another. Also, she’s dropping from a Grade 2 into this thing. That makes her very, very dangerous.
Wagering Strategy
If Wake Up Maggie goes off at 4 to 1 or higher, then I’m going to bet her to win, place and show. If she goes off at 7 to 2 or lower, then I am going to bet her just to win.
