New Orleans

The New Orleans Saints started a little bit slowly this year, but they are playing their best football of the season right now. The defense is much improved and the offense is starting to fire on all cylinders once again.

The Saints offense was a little less explosive earlier this year, but now they that they are healthy and in form, they are as dangerous as ever. Drew Brees isn’t having the season he did a year ago, but he has thrown for more than 300 yards in five of the last seven games. He has thrown 18 interceptions this year, which is pretty uncharacteristic of him.

New Orleans is now the third ranked passing attack in the NFL. Chris Ivory has given this team a huge boost in the running game. Ivory is averaging 5.3 yards per carry on the season. Now that Reggie Bush is getting healthy this team has another huge weapon out of the backfield as well as on special teams.

The Saints defense has improved quite a bit this year. Though they did win the Super Bowl last season, the defense wasn’t great. This year they have shut down the opposing offense much more consistently. New Orleans is sixth in total defense and they are fifth when it comes to stopping the pass. The team does a good job allowing opponents to convert on only 35% of their third down conversions. Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

Baltimore

Baltimore escaped with a 34-28 overtime victory in Houston last Monday, but that doesn’t erase the fact that there are plenty of concerns surrounding their ability to finish games. The Ravens have struggled mightily in the fourth quarter this year, and that is something they must fix before the playoffs get started.

The Ravens offense only picked up 298 yards against a weak Houston defense, so they didn’t exactly solve any problems last week. Ray Rice continues to struggle compared to his amazing year in 2009-2010. Joe Flacco has improved as the year has moved along. Flacco now has a quarterback rating of 94.0, which is the best of his career. The trio of Boldin, Mason, and Houshmandzadeh gives the Ravens a nice advantage on the outside almost every game. The Baltimore offense has been decent this year, but they can certainly be better with the talent level they have.

The Baltimore defense is still a good defense, but they are definitely not as solid as they were a few years ago. The front seven are very good, but they are aging a bit. The secondary is beat up and they looked quite suspect last week in Houston. The Ravens have done a terrific job forcing turnovers and limiting teams to turnovers this year. They are allowing only 17.6 points per game this season.

The Pick:

The Saints and the Ravens should be a tremendous matchup. I expect this to be one of the best games this week. I have a huge premium pick on this game. You can get it as part of my “Sunday NFL Entire Card.”
