San Diego is off to an interesting start this season after losing their season opener to Kansas City and then blowing out Jacksonville in Week 2 despite an awful first half performance that included two interceptions and a fumble.

However, the Jags lost the turnover battle with four INT’s and two fumbles that the Chargers converted to points.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks blasted preseason division favorites San Francisco in Week 1, but then turned around and was pounded by the Broncos the following week.

The big question for Seattle is whether they can get to and shut down Rivers, as they had just three sacks through two games and barely touched Denver QB Kyle Orton (307 yards, two TDs) in last week’s loss.

Rivers is a beast, and if given time to survey the field, will dismantle the best of secondaries.

However, he’s even better when the run game is clicking taking some pressure off having to force the pass. And it showed during last week’s win over Jacksonville, as RB Mike Tolbert contributed two TDs on 82 rushes.

Now the Chargers must head to Qwest field where it’s always difficult, and it won’t be a picnic as the Seahawks have improved their run defense through the past two contests allowing total of just 114 yards.

The Seahawks defensive line has to step up big for them to have a chance in this game. Orton had one of the best games of his life last week and Rivers is a much better QB. If he has any sort of time like Orton did, the Chargers will lay waste to Seattle.

Likewise, the San Diego defense that forced four Jacksonville turnovers, all interceptions in their tilt with the Jags, will need to show up and apply mass amounts on Seattle QB Matt Hasselback who tossed up three INTs of his own in his last outing, and has more picks than TDs so far this season.

San Diego has won five in a row versus NFC opponents and three straight on the road. Rivers is 11-5 as a starter against the NFC.

It will be expected that Pete Carroll will have his ‘Hawks playing much better after their loss at Denver, and you can bet Hasselbeck will be bring a much more accurate arm to the party.

Nevertheless, I am still not impressed with the Seahawks’ offensive capabilities and I am just not sure they have enough defensively to stop Rivers.

This game could stay close, until the Chargers establish some sort of running game, and then it will get lopsided very quickly.
