Head coach Rex Ryan has been the target of the latest round of controversy after an inappropriate video of he and wife Michelle allegedly made its rounds on the internet this week leaving the Jets to hope that they can make the headlines for the right reasons with an important win.

How New York Can Win?

New York has actually been better on the road this season than they’ve been at home, notching wins in six of seven games. The Jets will look to continue that run with a trip to Soldier Field where Chicago is just 4-3 and they could actually have the location advantage in this one as they will be out of the New York spotlight.

The Jets defense looked solid in a 22-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers last week and will need to get after Bears’ quarterback Jay Cutler to force him off of his game.

New York managed over 100 rushing yards against the top-ranked run defense in the win over the Steelers and with questions about sophomore quarterback Mark Sanchez’s shoulder injury, the Jets will need another heavy dose of the run.

How Chicago Can Win?

Chicago will need its third-ranked rush defense to step up and stop the Jets’ two-headed rushing attack of Shonn Greene and LaDanian Tomlinson, who have averaged a combined 4.2 yards per carry with six touchdowns this season.

If the Bears can force New York to rely on Sanchez and the passing game, they should be to force him into turning the ball over. He has been very accommodating in that regards over the last two months of the season.

Special teams aren’t often talked about but when Devin Hester and Brad Smith are going against one another, it’s significant. Chicago will have to make sure they win the battle in this department.

Bears quarterback Cutler has a 130.9 passer rating in the Bears’ last three wins and will need to continue to play at a high level against a stingy Jets’ defense.

Outlook

New York is currently tied with the Baltimore Ravens for the two AFC Wild Card spots at 10-4 and will secure a second straight postseason berth under Ryan with a win. The Bears have already locked up their spot after blowing away the Minnesota Vikings a week ago but have the chance to earn a first round bye and home field advantage for the first game if they can sweep their final two games.

The Jets are more desperate team and since they’ve actually played better on the road this season, there is no reason to think that won’t continue that trend after escaping the New York spotlight. The Bears have already clinched the NFC North and considering they haven’t played well at home all season it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Jets get the job done.

The total has gone OVER in 5 of the NY Jets last 5 games on the road
The total has gone UNDER in 5 of the NY Jets last 5 games when playing Chicago

Chicago is 6-1 SU in its last 7 games
