New York Yankees vs. Minnesota Twins 8:05 ET

Non-divisional AL baseball betting action takes center stage at Bookmaker Sportsbook on Wednesday night when the red hot New York Yankees (49-34, -$295) lock horns with the Minnesota Twins (43-41, -$142) for the second of the teams three-game MLB betting set. The Yankees demolished the Twins 10-2 behind a stellar pitching effort from staff ace C.C. Sabathia and a 16-hit effort from the offense last night.

Every starter had at least one base knock, and all but Derek Jeter and Johnny Damon drove in at least one RBI. With the offense imposing its will on the Twins beleaguered pitching staff, Sabathia’s seven innings of one-run ball almost seemed unnecessary.

The victory was the “Bronx Bombers” eighth in its L/10 games played (+$346) and sixth in a row as a visitor. Now sitting a comfortable 15-games over .500, Manager Joe Girardi’s Yankees sit just one-game in back of the AL East leading Boston Red Sox; they lead the AL Wild Card race by 2.5-games over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Minnesota was up against it from the 1st inning after starter Scott Baker struggled to get out of it.

He was chased after just three-innings of work, and the rout was on after forcing the Twins mediocre at best bullpen to chew up the six remaining frames. The defeat snapped the Twins two-game win streak, and they’ve now dropped four of their L/6 games held in the Metrodome. New York has dominated the Twins in their 2009 seasonal series winning all five of the match-ups to date.

Understandably, A.J. Burnett and the Yankees currently sits as -135 road favorites against Glen Perkins and the Twins per the current Bookmaker MLB odds; the game ‘total’ has been set at 9.5-runs.

A.J. Burnett comes into his 16th start of the season in fine form having allowed 12 hits and three ER’s through the 20.1 total innings he’s thrown in his L/3 starts. One of the Yanks prized off-season acquisitions currently sits 7-4 on the year with a solid 3.83 ERA & 1.36 WHIP with a K/BB ratio of 99/49 through 101 innings of work. He’s coming off a stellar effort against his former mates (Toronto) where he picked up his 7th win of the season by limiting the BJ’s to six hits and a pair of ER’s while K’ing seven and walking two through seven innings. He’s 1-1 with a 3.90 ERA in five career starts vs. Minnesota.

Opposing the formidable righty will be Glen Perkins who will hope to keep the ball down in the zone and hope the Yanks bats ground into a number of double plays like the Royals did his last time out. He allowed just one run through seven innings of that start, and recorded groundball outs against 16 of the 21 batters he faced. He’s been at his best in the dome where he sports a 2-2 record with a 3.72 ERA & 1.18 WHIP with a K/BB ratio of 25/10. He hasn’t fared well against the Yankees in his four career starts going 1-3 with a bloated 7.71 ERA & 1.88 WHIP.

The Yankees are 11-2 their L/13 overall, 5-2 on artificial turf, and 7-5 as a road favorite in the -125 to -150 range this season. The Twins are 3-4 as a home underdog in the +100 to +125 range, 3-2 after allowing 10 runs or more, and a perfect 5-0 the L/5 games following a loss. This series has been dominated by the home team who was won 15 of the L/20 meetings dating back to the 2007 season.

Can the Yankees extend its winning streak to six against the Twins, or will Manager Ron Gardenhire’s club bounce back and even up the series at a game apiece?
