NFL Lock Alert – Jets Looking to Put Reeling Buccaneers on Lockdown

Jets vs. Buccaneers (+3)

The New York Jets (6-6 SU, 6-6 ATS, 5-6-1 O/U) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-11 SU, 4-8 ATS, 6-6 O/U) don’t have much left to play for except pride at this point of their respective regular seasons.

The Jets however, apparently want to finish up strong for first-year head coach Rex Ryan as the team builds toward the future.

New York has won two straight games including a 19-13 win over Buffalo in Week 13. The Jets covered the NFL point spread as 3.5-point road favorites, the team’s second consecutive payday for pro football betting backers.

The Buccaneers haven’t been so fortunate under first-year head coach Raheem Morris and are still looking to record their second win of the season after beating Green Bay 38-28 in Week 9.

Tampa Bay lost to Carolina 16-6 in Week 13, failing to cover the spread NFL point spread as a 3.5-point road underdog, but has gone a solid 3-2 ATS over their last five games.

Analysis: I’ll keep this pick short and sweet by simply saying that the Tampa Buccaneers and rookie quarterback Josh Freeman are in trouble in this matchup going up against the aggressive New York Jets defense.

While the Jets have averaged just 20.8 points per game this season and have a rookie quarterback of their own that has struggled mightily at times this season, New York’s voracious defense will almost assuredly give Josh Freeman fits in this matchup.

I’m fully expecting the Jets to win this game going away as they force Freeman into at least a couple of turnovers which lead to directly to easy scores for the Jets who will likely be working with a short field on more than one occasion.

Tampa Bay doesn’t have much of a rushing attack to take pressure off of their rookie signal caller, meaning New York should be able to have their way against the Buccaneers in obvious passing situations.

The Jets will run veteran back Thomas Jones and rookie Shonn Greene early and often and will unleash rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez through the air when they have the opportunity.

Jets are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS win.
Jets are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games as a favorite.
Buccaneers are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games overall.
Buccaneers are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 home games.

Take the Jets to cover the NFL point spread with room to spare in an emphatic road win.
