Those checking Super Bowl betting lines will see a pair of NFC North rivals go head-to-head when Chicago and Green Bay meet next weekend, and on Wednesday, the Big 12 will have their own rivalry meeting as Texas A&M heads to Texas to face the Longhorns.

This rivalry is most known for its gridiron battles, but with both sitting just outside the top 10, their hoops counterparts will be just as hungry for a win.

The Aggies (16-1, 3-0) were 14th heading into this week’s rankings, and could move up after a 91-89 overtime win at home over then-No.15 Missouri, and they won this game at the foul line as they were 29-of-38 from the charity stripe, while the Tigers were only 9-of-19.

Khris Middleton poured in 28 points, including 11 in the extra period, and he added seven boards for the Aggies, who also got 16 points from Nathan Walkup.

The Aggies were very fortunate to survive a second-half Missouri rally, and they allowed the Tigers to shoot 52.2% from the field in one of the more wild scores of the weekend.

The Longhorns (14-3, 2-0) had a much easier time, and they could move from their No.12 ranking after a 66-46 romp over Oklahoma at home, gaining a little bit of revenge for the Sooners’ win over Texas in the “Red River Rivalry”.

Jordan Hamilton led a balanced scoring squad with 17 points, while Tristan Thompson added 15 points and eight boards for the Longhorns, who held the Sooners to 39.2% from the field. It wasn’t all good for Texas, though, as they were a miserable 11-of-21 from the foul line.

If the Longhorns are going to make a serious run in March, they have to improve from the free-throw line.

Betting services will likely favor the Longhorns at home, and the Aggies haven’t had much luck in Austin, losing their last eight trips there. This game will be a hard-fought battle on the glass, where the Aggies are second in the country in rebound margin, while the Longhorns are 18th. Texas A&M isn’t a very big team, but they’re scrappy, and it’s going to be a battle in the post between Middleton and Thompson.

The Longhorns have the edge on the perimeter with Hamilton, who can also play with the big boys down low and is emerging as a leader on the team, which is something that Texas didn’t have last season.

It’s going to be a close game, but some teams just have a problem winning in certain places, and the Aggies seem to be jinxed in Austin, which is why we’re taking Texas with our sports betting pick.

Poolside Rants hails from beautiful Bozeman Montana by way of Toronto, Canada. (Blame his wife for the move). He’s a Dallas Cowboys football honk. But please….don’t hold that against him. The man knows his sports and has uncanny knowledge when it comes to picking games.
