Steelers Titans Betting Odds – Spread – Lines

Cappers Expert pick and handicapping look at the AFC matchup featuring the Steelers and Titans facing off for the No.1 seed in the playoffs in Week 16 of the 2008/09 NFL season…

NFL Betting Game of the Week Steelers @ Titans

Do you remember that point in Elisha Cuthbert’s career when she decided to make the movie, “Girl Next Door” after making such awful cameo appearances in “24” and “Love Actually”? Was anyone a little worried that a young, absurdly hot, woman from Canada was making a poor choice by playing a porn actress in a movie that would forever be remember for her sex scenes? Weren’t you thinking, I think this is a little too much, too soon?

Well, that’s exactly how you should feel about the Titans. Like Cuthbert back in the early turn of the century, the Titans were everything you could want in a football team. A gritty, shut down defense, an improbable trio in the backfield commandeering the hearts and imaginations of every degenerate in the world and a coach that everyone loves. The Titans steamrolled to a bevy of decisive wins, covering the spread for nearly eleven straight weeks.

Now the wheels are falling off the bandwagon, and fast. Albert Haynesworth and Lord Vanden Bosch are going to both sit out for the rest of the season. There goes that vaunted rushing defense. Now there’s talk of resting ROY candidate Chris Johnson, and even Kerry Collins. Why? Didn’t we learn from Tampa Bay last season that you just keep going? That you don’t break momentum?

NFL Betting Trends

-Pittsburgh is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games
-Pittsburgh is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games on the road
-Pittsburgh is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games when playing Tennessee
-Tennessee is 11-2-1 ATS in their last 14 games
-Tennessee is 12-2 SU in their last 14 games
-Tennessee has gone OVER in 4-of-6 when playing Pittsburgh

So it turns out that Fisher is out to really destroy the Titans’ Super Bowl hopes. With his dynamic duo on the defensive line taking it easy for the next few weeks, the Titans betting faithful need to smarten up and jump ship. The ride is over, kids.

Pittsburgh has been on the rise after struggles earlier in the year had people questioning their resolve. Truth is, especially for the running game, the early season woes and injuries were the best thing that could’ve happened to the Steelers. They found Mewelde Moore, who now gives Willie Parker someone who can take carries away so he can rest, while Ben Roethlisberger has continued to unload firebombs to the bevy of his receiving weapons. The Steelers may average just 21.6 points per game, ranking 21st in the league, but there’s nearly no reason to doub them because of their incredible defense.

Pittsburgh Steelers (11-3) vs. Tennessee Titans (12-2)
Sunday, December 21st — LP Field, Nashville — 1:00pm EST
NFL Betting Line: Pittsburgh -2 (34.5)

The Steelers have the best defense in the league, thanks to would-be MVP Troy Polamalu. Jeff Fisher couldn’t have screwed over the odds makers any better. With a line that opened up at -1 for Tennessee, there’s no way it could move out of control. Pittsburgh will roll out their best to try and gun for AFC supremacy, and the Titans have already tossed in the towel. In January we’ll find out if Tennessee made the right choice, but I can tell you right now that resting key players at the end of a grueling NFL season never ends well. Ever.
