Sportsbooks are well aware of societies infatuation with wagering on this game, so in order to add to the fun and excitement,  they offer a number of ‘proposition bets’ surrounding the outcome of just about any aspect of this event.

There is no limit to the amount and variety of prop bets when it comes to the Super Bowl. All you have to do is go to Bodog.com and search Super Bowl prop bets and you will find 17 pages of things to wager on.

Before the game even begins you can wager on the ‘over/under’ of the length of the National Anthem. Christina Aquilera is performing the song this year and the current money line is -130 it goes ‘over’ 1:54 and -110 it stays ‘under’ 1:54. If you want to play a National Anthem parlay then bet that she will come out wearing a cowboy hat for +300.

Some of the more serious game wagers include such areas as which team scores first, what kind of score it will be and when will it take place. For example, if you think that Green Bay scores first with a touchdown in the first 7:15 minutes of the first quarter you would have the following money lines:

Green Bay -125
Touchdown -170
First 7:15 Minutes -175

Scoring first in the Super Bowl is often a very good omen for the future so might want to wager -165 that the team that does score first goes onto win. If you want to go the other way the money line is +135.

With two closely matched teams like the Packers and the Steelers you might want to wager -175 that the team that scores last wins the game. If you this game being decided long before the final gun then go with no at +145.

The ‘over/under’ for the total points scored in the game is currently 44 ½, but you can break this down into bets on Green Bay’s first half total (-115 over 12 points, -115 under 12 points) or Pittsburgh’s first half total (-115 over 11 ½ points, -115 under 11 ½ points).

If you are interested in prop bets for individual performances then you might want to take a flyer on Packers’ defensive lineman B.J. Raji playing at least one offensive play at -180.

A very popular prop bet involving players is who will win the game’s MVP award? Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers is a prohibitive favorite at 3/2 with Pittsburgh QB Ben Roethlisberger the second favorite at 7/2. The best odds for a defensive player are with Steelers safety Troy Polamalu at 15/1 followed by Packers cornerback Charles Woodson at 16/1.

You can also wager on the ‘over/under’ of each quarterback’s total passing yards. Rodgers is -125 for throwing ‘over’ 275 ½ yards and -105 for throwing under. Roethlisberger is -115 for throwing ‘over’ 245 ½ yards and -115 for throwing ‘under’.

The list goes on and on for several more categories for the QB’s as well as the running backs, wide-receivers, tight ends, and kickers. There are also numerous categories for the defense including things such as total tackles and assists, sacks, and interceptions.

Remember, if something or someone has a recorded stat, you can guarantee it has a prop bet money line attached to it as well. Enjoy the game and best of luck with the multitude of action it brings.
