When a really good trainer decides to drop a horse, online racebook fans had better pay attention. Not because that horse automatically could be a good online horse bet. It’s that the horse in question might not be good enough to win the claiming race the trainer has put him in.
Online sports wagering enthusiasts and hockey betting sharps are primed for the start of the NHL season, as there is tremendous NHL betting value to take advantage of as early as this weekend.
One typical betting trend when it comes to early season NHL games is high scoring. Generally, it takes goaltenders a few weeks or so to get into a rhythm once again, and coaches like to alternate between their starter and backup to begin the season, so as to give both ‘keepers a look.
This game will prove to be everything that the USC-OSU letdown wasn’t. Both teams are itching to prove themselves, despite some defensive lapses. The Sooners are the best team in the country, and Sam Bradford is out to prove that he is Heisman worthy. The one thing standing in their way is Texas’s Colt McCoy and his road warrior Longhorns.
The Jacksonville Jaguars (2-3 SU, 1-4 ATS, 3-2 O/U), had high hopes of making their first Super Bowl appearance this season after a recording a promising 11-5 record in 2007, but are in serious danger of even making the playoffs this season even at this early juncture of the 2008 regular season.
The Green Bay Packers travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks after reeling from three straight losses. First, it was the Dallas Cowboys. Then, it was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Finally, they just dropped a game versus the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday at home.
The Arizona State Sun Devils (2-3 SU, 1-3 ATS) are trying to break a three-game losing streak, but they’re going to have a hard time doing it, as they face off against the USC Trojans (3-1 SU & ATS) in NCAA college football action that is scheduled to kick off at 3:30 PM ET at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (natural turf).
This time the Red River Rivalry has additional meaning, as the Oklahoma Sooners (5-0 SU, 4-0 ATS) face off against the Texas Longhorns (5-0 SU & ATS) in a Big 12 contest that has both conference and national title implications. The action gets underway at Noon ET at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
The Georgia Bulldogs (4-1 SU, 2-1-1 ATS), have had the benefit of an off-week and are on the rebound from their first loss of the season. On Saturday they will try to redeem themselves at home when they hook up with the Tennessee Volunteers (2-3 SU, 1-4 ATS) in NCAA college football action in the SEC that is scheduled to get underway at 3:30 PM ET at Sanford Stadium (natural turf) in Athens, GA.
The Red River Shootout is upon us and Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy will engage in what will prove to be a defining moment in college football betting futures. Max Hall and the favorite, Chase Daniel, remain in the hunt. But who’s creeping up on them?
The SEC Conference this season looks a lot like the SEC Conference last season. The LSU Fighting Tigers are undefeated and looking to win the SEC straight-up while the Florida Gators already have a loss and might be looking at a second loss.
The Atlanta Falcons (3-2 SU & ATS), who just got an uplifting road win last week against the Packers, return home this week to face the Chicago Bears (3-2 SU, 3-1-1 ATS) in an NFL contest that is slated to get underway at 1 PM ET at the Georgia Dome (artificial turf) in Atlanta.
No Tom Brady? No problem! The New England Patriots came out last weekend after a bye week and showed why they are easily still one of the top teams in the AFC. The most impressive thing I saw out of this team, as an online betting fan, was how they got Randy Moss into the game early. With Moss catching passes, this team is very difficult to beat. That’s exactly what they did. Moss catches passes, New England plays well, and the Patriots beat the NFL online betting spread of 3 points by winning their game versus the 49’ers by 9 points.
The last time New York Jets (2-2 SU, 2-2 ATS, 2-2 O/U) quarterback Brett Favre took the field, he tossed a career-high six touchdown passes.
Playing against the lowly Cincinnati Bengals (0-5 SU, 2-3 ATS, 2-3 O/U) this week at Giants Stadium could allow Favre to tie or even surpass that personal record as the winless Bengals don’t figure to offer much resistance as they seek their first win of the 2008-09 NFL season.
Why anyone would want to coach the dysfunctional Oakland Raiders (1-3 SU, 2-2 ATS, 3-1 O/U), these days is beyond me, but new head coach Tom Cable is clearly in over his head with a franchise that is totally ‘lost in the sauce.’
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2 SU, 4-1 ATS, 3-2 O/U), have a winning record after five games but are coming off a dismal 16-13 road loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday in the BetUS Sportsbook.
The Carolina Panthers (4-1 SU, 3-1-1 ATS, 1-4 O/U), on the other hand, have won and covered the spread in two straight games, including Sunday’s 34-0 home blowout of the abysmal Kansas City Chiefs.
