We are down to the final four for this year’s playoffs as the march towards the NBA Finals wears on.
The San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Clippers are considered legitimate contenders in the Western Conference, but it is the Spurs who have started their season perfect with a 4-0 record, while the Clippers have dropped back-to-back games against fringe playoff teams this season.
No team in the NBA likes to fly under the radar as much as the San Antonio Spurs, and that’s exactly what they did throughout the 2012 offseason. The Spurs quietly re-signed Tim Duncan, Tony Parker avoided too much publicity following an eye injury (that took place at a rap concert) and the team should enter the new year with hopes of returning to the Western Conference Finals.
The Spurs won 20 straight games, but now they have lost three in a row and they are on the brink of elimination. Oklahoma City is a young team who appears to be coming of age right before our eyes in the playoffs.
The Western Conference Finals are living up to the hype. Both teams took care of business on their home court and we are all level at two games apiece. Now, it’s time for a pivotal Game Five. Which team can stick their nose out in front?
Oklahoma City stormed (pun intended) to a massive Game Three win on Thursday night. It was a must win game for the Thunder, and they clearly had gotten the message.
The San Antonio Spurs dominated Game Two to take a 2-0 lead over the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals.
Oklahoma City led by nine early in the fourth quarter, but the San Antonio Spurs kicked it into high gear and won their 19th straight game Sunday night in Game One of the Western Conference Finals.
It’s one of the most anticipated playoff series’ in years. Oklahoma City is an up and coming young team full of talent.
The Spurs did it again, winning in impressive, albeit different fashion. This time, like a cat playing with a mouse they let their opponents think they were in the game, getting down by as many as 24 points before turning it on and winning going away.
The Spurs proved again in game two that they are on fire.
I suppose it could be said that the fact that the Los Angeles Clippers made the playoffs and won a round is a fine accomplishment for a franchise without much history of success…but at least go out with your pants on.
The Clippers needed all seven games to put away the Memphis Grizzlies in round one.
Things do not look good for the Jazz, as they are down 3-0 in this series and while being a great home team this season they lost Game 3 on their floor and it was not a very close game.
The Spurs took a 1-0 lead in this series over the Jazz with their Game 1 win and unless Utah has some players besides their big guns step up they will be in an 0-2 hole heading home.
It will be the final game of the NBA regular season on TNT Thursday night. The Golden State Warriors will host the top-seeded San Antonio Spurs in this one.
