Even though this conference is the weakest in recent memory they could change many people’s minds with a couple large upsets come the NCAA Tournament. Currently there is only one team that is a lock for the NCAA Tournament.
“Selection Sunday” (March 15) will be only five weeks away with the completion of this weekend’s play in college hoops. Bracket Buster Saturday is next weekend and the first of what will be 30 conference tournaments begin on March 3, when the Big South, Horizon League and the Ohio Valley Conference tip off their postseason events.
The SEC Championship game is finally here. The winner of this game no doubt will garner a spot in the BCS Championship on January 8th. The Alabama Crimson Tide is currently 12 and 0 straight-up and ranked number one in the country. From a sports betting point-of-view, the Crimson Tide have been terrific going 9 and 3 against the BetUS online betting spread. They don’t have a lot of superstar names on their roster, but they play a great brand of offense and their defense is easily one of the best in the nation.

The Georgia Bulldogs have an outside shot at winning the SEC and returning to the BCS Championship game. They haven’t been there in a while. The Florida Gators were just there two years ago. They also have a shot at returning to the BCS Championship game.
The Georgia Bulldogs travel to Baton Rouge to take on last year’s SEC Champion, the LSU Fighting Tigers. Georgia started this season ranked number one in the nation and then fell a couple places but were never out of the top three until a terrible loss at home to the Alabama Crimson Tide ended their chances at the BCS Championship. They have a long hill to climb to get back into the title game.
Major conference college action begins tonight with SEC’s Auburn versus Big East’s West Virginia. We also have a preview of New Mexico at Air Force out of the MWC.
When the schedule came out this looked like a great non-conference tilt, but each team has had problems.

The Georgia Bulldogs are the AP’s number one team and 5:1 odds to win the national title, but is that a good value?
USC is the top betting choice to be national champs at 7:2, with Ohio State second at 4:1. Oklahoma is also 5:1.
Georgia coach Mark Richt’s returns 17 starters from arguably the best team in the country at the end of last season, and they are also riding a seven-game winning streak. Talent wise, the Bulldogs can easily lineup with any team even after losing offensive tackle Trinton Sturdivant for the season.
However, the Georgia schedule is extremely brutal this year and others are paying attention. Las Vegas Sports Consultants has Georgia ranked 7th, overall, as they base their rankings on where they think a team will finish the season.
Georgia’s first tough game is September 13th at #26 South Carolina. South Carolina handed Georgia one of its two losses last season, 16-12 in Athens as three-point underdogs. The Gamecocks have their best team since coach Steve Spurrier arrived in Columbia and he welcomes back 10 starters on defense. Also, five of the last seven meetings between these teams have been decided by six or less points.
The Southeastern Conference and CBS Sports announced a 15-year contract extension Thursday for broadcast rights to SEC football and basketball games. Beginning with the 2009-10 season.
As an added bonus the deal includes certain digital, Internet, wireless, video-on-demand and enhanced highlight rights.
