MLB Lines – Braves vs D-Backs
Friday night’s tilt in the desert is an intriguing match-up because, although Arizona has a batting order full of weapons right now, Atlanta possesses a potent weapon – starting pitcher Julio Teheran.

An interleague match-up in middle America – does it get any more “baseball” than that? I think not.
The Nationals (27-28) are known for their wealth of talented pitching. Some hurlers are helping DC hang around the NL East divisional race – but it’s not the pitchers you might think.
On the season the A’s have an Over/Under record of 10-11 and a run-line W/L record of 12-9 and the Astros have an Over/Under record of 9-12 and a run-line W/L record of 10-12.
This is a big early series between Texas and Oakland the Rangers struck first with a victory Monday night. Yu Darvish was not as dominant as he has been to start the season but he kept the team in it and let a bullpen that gave up only one his over the final three innings win it.
The Reds stumbled a bit on offense last season after having a great season at the plate the previous season and one of the issues was at the leadoff spot. They really addressed that need brining in Shin-Soo Choo, who batted .310 and had an on-base-percentage of .389 last season.
The Pirates looked great in the first half of last season, but they went through a major 2nd half collapse. At the beginning of August they were 16 games above .500, but then the bottom fell out and they ended up with yet another losing season.
The Cardinals played well last season and their offense did not miss a beat even with the departure of Albert Pujols. They made the playoffs, beat the Braves in the Wild Card round, and lost to the eventual champion Giants in the NL championship.
The Cubs ranked 28th in the league in runs scored last season and while they have young talent they need to be much better than last season to have any chance to contend this season. Soriano had a great season with over 30 HR and 100 RBI, but no other player had more than 15 HR.
The Minnesota Twins are usually in the hunt but they have fallen on hard times the last few seasons. Their 2012 lineup had a few nice surprises but the pitching was absolutely miserable.
The Royals have been mired in sub-mediocrity for some time now. They have been trying to get out of it through the draft and prospect development but not enough of their young talent have become solid contributors, let alone the stars they were hoping for.
The White Sox were a legitimate threat to Detroit in the AL Central last year, using a top 10 offense to a better than .500 record. They are the most likely challenger to the Tigers again this season, thought a Wild Card birth is the more reasonable goal.
The Indians were just horrible last season. The team had few high calibre players and the ones they did have turned in poor seasons. This team was especially sparse on pitching and unfortunately it remains so heading into this season.
Philadelphia owned the NL East in recent years with five-straight division titles from 2007 until 2011 including a World Series Championship in 2008, but it suffered a harsh dose of reality last season that a good thing does not last forever.
A new high-profile manager and exorbitant free-agent spending spree had many of the baseball experts touting the newly-named Miami Marlins as the team to watch in 2012. Ozzie Guillen got off on the wrong foot with the Miami fans and never really recovered while none of the players brought in to help turn things around ever came close to living-up to their inflated contracts.
When New York decided to jettison a few high-priced but underperforming players during the 2011 season Mets fans accepted the fact that last season was the start of a major rebuilding program. The end result was an overall record of 74-88 which was actually three more losses than the year before, but the team may finally have some of the right pieces in place for a change.
