NFL: BURRESS’ ANTICS AFFECTING ODDS

New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress made headlines with his recent gun arrest, and that’s one reason the Giants have dropped to 7 ½-point home favorites over Philadelphia.

New York is 11-1 straight up and 10-2 ATS, but the spread has gone down after opening at nine points. Eagles’ quarterback Donovan McNabb played great last week versus Arizona and that is influencing Eagles’ backers as well.

Note that this is just one of the many Week 14 early odds you can find at Sportsbook.com.

We also have the best selection of future odds, and the best promotions available like our Rush for the Riches and Primetime Props.

The Thursday night game features the Oakland Raiders getting 10 points on the road at the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers haven’t covered in their last three home games and 55% of the early bettors think they will fail again.

The Indianapolis Colts have won five games in a row but the biggest margin of victory was just six points. The Colts are giving 13 ½ points at home to Cincinnati and 90% think Indy will win by two touchdowns.

The Chicago Bears may only be playing .500 football, but that’s good enough to contend in the NFC North. Chicago hosts a fading Jacksonville Jaguars team as 6 ½-point favorites and 88% of bettors like the Bears’ chances.

Green Bay is another team still alive in the NFC North despite a 5-7 record and they’re giving six points at home to the 5-7 Houston Texans. Note that the Texans have covered three straight games while the Packers failed in their last two.

The Cleveland Browns are down to their third string quarterback in Ken Dorsey with Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson both injured. That’s a big reason why they’re 13 ½-point dogs at Tennessee and why only 3% of the public is backing them.

The New Orleans Saints are 4-1 straight up and ATS at home this year which is why they’re three-point favorites over a good Atlanta Falcons team. Only 22% though are willing to back the Saints at that number.

The Miami Dolphins keep surprising everyone by staying in the AFC playoff chase. Miami hasn’t won or covered the spread in their last four trips to Buffalo so luckily for them, this game is being played indoors in Toronto. So far, 71% of bettors like the men from Florida as one-point dogs.

The New York Jets are getting tremendous support this week as 99% of the public likes them giving four points at an improving San Francisco 49ers team. Note the Jets are 3-0 straight up and ATS in their last three road games.

The Denver Broncos are coming off a big win at the New York Jets, but they have struggled at home with an 0-5-1 ATS record. Denver is still giving nine points to a bad Kansas City Chiefs team and 64% like the Broncos to get their first home cover.

The Dallas Cowboys have won and covered all three contests since quarterback Tony Romo has come back. However, they have a very tough game at the Pittsburgh Steelers as three-point dogs and only 40% is backing Dallas.

Another large spread this week is the Arizona Cardinals 13 ½-point chalk at home against the St. Louis Rams. The Cardinals need a win to clinch the NFC West and 83% think they get it plus the cover.

The New England Patriots are 4-1 ATS on the road as they face a Seattle Seahawks team that is only 1-4-1 ATS at home. The Patriots are five-point road chalk and 88% of bettors like these ATS trends to continue.

The Carolina Panthers are a perfect 6-0 at home and they’re three-point home favorites on Monday Night Football over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Early on, 56% like the Panthers.
