NFL: RAVENS POSE CHALLENGE FOR COWBOYS

The Dallas Cowboys are very much alive in the NFC playoff picture, but they have a big challenge on their hands on Saturday night against the Baltimore Ravens.

Dallas is a four-point favorite at Sportsbook.com, but that hasn’t stopped over 70% of bettors from backing the hosts.

Amazingly, it will be the first time the Ravens have ever played in Dallas in a regular season game.

Both teams share 9-5 records and both are in must-win situations. Coach Wade Phillips’ team is 6-1 straight up and 4-3 ATS at home. Baltimore has lost its last three games ATS on the road versus NFC teams.

Terrell Owens has caused a lot of internal turmoil on this team recently but make no mistake about it, the outcome in Dallas depends directly on the play of him, Tony Romo and Jason Witten, because Baltimore’s run defense doesn’t give up inches, let alone yards.

Running back Marion Barber returned to the lineup last week against the Giants but managed just two yards on eight carries, while Tashard Choice ran for 79 of his 91 yards in the fourth quarter, including a game-sealing 38-yard touchdown.

Joe Flacco struggled against Pittsburgh last week, completing just 11 passes in a 13-9 loss, and has another tough matchup in Dallas. If anything, the play of the Cowboys defense, which has harassed quarterbacks for 53 sacks, including eight of Eli Manning, has at least kept them in contention for the postseason.

But as Flacco’s shown, he does not need to dominate from start to finish. He just needs to capitalize on one or two big plays and let his defense handle the rest.

The Cowboys have been like a bad soap opera this season, battling everything from internal strife to suspensions to injuries. Still, they are right back in the hunt, controlling their own Wild Card destiny after the big win over the Giants.

On the other sideline, the Ravens have to be terribly disappointed after losing to Pittsburgh in a game that seemed in their control throughout.

As much as it seems like a public play, I just can’t see Dallas losing the swan song at Texas Stadium, especially with how critical the game is.

Saturday Night Football Prediction: Dallas -4
