Betting on Sports and Gambling in Ontario vs. ProLine
Our look at Canadian gambling operations continues with Ontario. With the ultra-popular Pro-Line as its flagship, Ontario has arguably the most famous provincial sports betting service.

Overview
Ontario’s gambling setup is fairly elaborate, as the casino operations are handled separately from lottery and sports betting. The former are run by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
In the province’s many land-based casinos, sports betting games are offered, though they still have more of a “provincial” feel than a Vegas feel.
Lottery and sports betting are handled by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, a Crown corporation.
Ontario’s featured option: PRO-LINE
Pro-Line is probably Canada’s most “storied” sports betting service. It operates under the nationwide “Sports Select” umbrella, which was founded in 1984. Pro-Line has been available in ticket form at retail kiosks since 1992.
If there’s a pro associated with Pro-Line, it’s that it gives you slightly lower juice than the other provincial books. Pro-Line itself forces you to pick between three and six outcomes but you also have sister games like Point Spreads and Pro Picks, which let you bet on individual games, not to mention props.
Your betting options are still limited – don’t even dream about NBA basketball – but Ontario gaming at least doesn’t always force you into a parlay bet.
Pro-Line really falls short in its lack of evolution. Because Ontario puts far more energy into lottery, casinos and even bingo, the sports betting scene hasn’t changed or improved much at all since its inception.
The Pro-Line website looks like it was made in 1994.
Why CappersPicks Canada-approved sportsbooks are better
1. Offshore winnings aren’t susceptible to tax. A win on an offshore bet is instantly worth more than a win via Pro-Line. It’s the same as other provincial betting operations. [ad-4437448]
2. Offshore books have much lower juice. Most Ontario betting options still force you into the parlay pick. They sell you on that false dream that “If I pick all 12 of these games right, I win a ton of money!” when the odds of doing so are incredibly low.
You can slightly better your odds by playing Pro Picks but your options are so limited that the experience is hardly worth your while.
3. Far more betting options. Pro-Line gives you six different leagues to bet on (not sports – leagues), which absolutely pales in comparison to the crazy amount of options you get from an offshore book.
4. The customer service is on a higher level. I haven’t heard anything about customer service or bonuses associated with Ontario gaming. Does it even exist?
5. It’s more convenient. The Pro-Line website is extremely dated, tough to read and generally inconvenient.
The process of going to a retail outlet, filling out your ticket by hand, then bringing it back to collect your “winnings” later is also quite a pain.
During that time frame, you could click away at an online offshore book like JustBet or BetDSI and make another 10 wagers!
