Vincent Jackson didn’t get dealt but other NFL trade rumors continue to fly around in today’s news.

NFL news: Eagles receiving “numerous calls” for Kevin Kolb; Ryan Mathews has high ankle sprain

Eagles receiving “numerous calls” for Kevin Kolb

Kevin Kolb lost his starting quarterback job with the Eagles this week but could find work again soon. Numerous teams have already called the Eagles, asking about Kolb’s availability via trade.

The prime suitor is likely Cleveland. The Browns general manager, Tom Heckert, drafted Kolb when he was running the Eagles. He and Mike Holmgren tried hard over the winter to acquire Kolb but Andy Reid stood pat.

Apparently, when Heckert almost took the Falcons front office job a few years back, he would’ve given Reid “whatever he wanted” for  Kolb.

“A [first-rounder], a two, two ones, no joke. Kolb is legit,” Heckert said.

It doesn’t look like rookie Ryan Mathews will return to the Chargers’ lineup this Sunday or any time soon for that matter. He has a high ankle sprain, which can take weeks at a time to heal.

Mike Tolbert played well in Mathews’ stead last week and looks like he’ll start in Week 3.

NBA news: Steve Nash directs documentary

First Baron Davis produced an Emmy-nominated documentary. Now, Steve Nash is making his directorial debut.

Nash directed Into the Wind, a documentary about Canadian runner Terry Fox. He lost his leg to cancer and went on a marathon run across the country that remains a big part of the country’s heritage today.

Nash’s documentary airs next Tuesday as part of ESPN’s 30 for 30 series.

NHL news: Sheldon Souray on the trading block; Bruins deny that Marc Savard is out for the year

Sheldon Souray’s contract is an albatross but his shot from the point is equally heavy. That’s why the rebuilding Edmonton Oilers are getting offers for their big defenseman.

Rumor has it that the Columbus Blue Jackets are thinking about sending Mike Commodore, an Alberta native, to his home province in exchange for Souray. Commodore’s salary cap hit is $3.75 million whereas Souray’s is $5.4 million. The deal makes a ton of sense to me.

The Blue Jackets need an offensive boost and would be adding a blueliner with two 20-plus goal seasons to his name.

That’s a rare find.

Were the Boston Bruins dishonest while trying to trade Marc Savard all summer? They’re adamantly denying a rumor from ESPN that Savard may now miss the entire 2010-11 season with post-concussion syndrome.

He suffered the concussion on a blindside hit from Matt Cooke last year but returned for the playoffs.
