It took a while, but Major League Baseball finally decided what to do with crazy Nyjer Morgan. More on that in today’s news.

MLB  news: Morgan will serve eight-game suspension; Kevin Mitchell in assault trial?

MLB News For Friday

Originally, it looked like Nyjer Morgan, the demented Washington Nationals outfielder, got off a little easy.

He was slated to sit out 15 games as a result of two different suspensions. The first one was for seven games on August 25 after he deliberately hurled a baseball into the stands against the Phillies; the second was for eight games after the started a crazy brawl with the Florida Marlins. In the end, Morgan will serve one eight-game suspension instead.

Remember Kevin Mitchell? The former National League MVP with the San Francisco Giants? He’s back. And apparently he’s bustin’ skulls. He’s been charged with assault for allegedly punching a man in the head several times and concussing him during an altercation at the Bonita Golf Club course in southern California.

NBA news: Mark Cuban slams LeBron James for “the largest public humiliation in the history of sports”

Many big NBA personalities have thrown their two cents in regarding LeBron James and “The Decision” this summer and the often-outspoken Mark Cuban is the latest to offer an opinion.

The Mavericks owner said he was fine with LeBron going wherever he wanted, whenever he wanted. And he was even fine with the idea of announcing his decision on TV. But he couldn’t stand the way LeBron announced his signing with the Heat. Cuban called it “the largest public humiliation in the history of sports.”

“He humiliated the organization, he humiliated the state of Ohio, the city of Cleveland,” Cuban added.

NHL news: Ducks sign Paul Mara; Blackhawks extend Joel Quenneville’s contract

The banged up Ducks, desperate for help on their blueline, added big veteran Paul Mara yesterday. Minutes eater Toni Lydman is out with double vision so the Ducks picked up Mara as a precaution.

The 31-year-old Mara played 48 games with the Montreal Canadiens last season before injuring his shoulder.  The former first-round pick’s best season game in 2005-06 with Phoenix when he scored 15 goals and tallied 47 points.

Boxing news: Felony charges piling up for Floyd Mayweather Jr.

A domestic violence case that already had Floyd Mayweather Jr. staring down a theft charge just got a lot worse. Clark County District Attorney David Roger now alleges that Mayweather threatened his ex-girlfriend Josie Harris’ life and threatened to beat two of their children during an argument at her home a week ago.

Mayweather was already arrested last week on a felony grand larceny charge for taking mobile phones that belonged to Harris and two of their children.
