NFL news: Jimmy Johnson voted off Survivor; Chad Ochocinco cereal typo sends callers to sex line

Jimmy Is Voted Off Survivor!!!

Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson is eliminated from Survivor. The Super Bowl champion was eliminated on this past Wednesday’s episode. Though he took on a leadership role and appeared well-liked, too many of his “Older Tribe” teammates were threatened by his celebrity. After getting the boot, Johnson said being on Survivor was the hardest thing he’s ever done.

Chad Ochocinco’s cereal boxes have been recalled because of a rather hilarious typo. The phone number listed on the boxes is supposed to connect callers to Feed the Children, the charity that receives proceeds from Chad’s cereal sales. However, the prefix is entered incorrectly on the box; instead of the charity, it takes callers to a phone sex line. The company that made the boxes, PLB Sports Inc., is working hard to correct the problem.

Quick injury update: of all the banged up running backs, Knowshon Moreno (hamstring) and Steven Jackson (groin) seem least likely to play whereas Ray Rice, Jahvid Best and Pierre Thomas look like they’ll play through pain. All-world cornerback Darrelle Revis (hamstring) won’t suit up for the Jets this week. It’s not like they need him against the Bills anyway.

MLB news: Justin Morneau out for at least ALDS; Josh Hamilton returns to Ranger lineup

For Twins fans optimistic that slugger Justin Morneau will return in time for the American League Division Series – don’t be. The big fella’s concussion has kept him out since July 7. He’s taking batting practice now and reports that his symptoms are finally starting to improve, so he’s holding out hope for an ALCS return should the Twinkies make it there. They did go 47-23 after the All-Star break without Morneau, so they just might advance past the ALDS.

The Texas Rangers have much better news. Josh Hamilton, out since September 4 with broken ribs, is set to return tonight and play six innings in the outfield. He’ll DH on Saturday and play the outfield again on Sunday as the Rangers try to get their MVP candidate slugger ready for the postseason.

NBA news: Jamal Mashburn owns 71 restaurants

Remember Jamal Mashburn? Sort of, right? He had a solid career, bouncing around with Dallas, Miami, Charlotte and so on, averaging over 19 points for 13 seasons and making the All-Star team in 2003.

But he wasn’t finished making his mark on the world. According to a story by Yahoo!, Mashburn has been busy since 2006. Busy buying a million friggin’ restaurants. He owns 34 Outback steakhouses, 37 Papa John’s pizzerias, some Dunkin’ Donuts and a pile o’ car dealerships. That’s at least 71 restaurants to the man’s name. Nice work.

NHL news: Oilers waive Sheldon Souray

In all likelihood, defenseman Sheldon Souray and his booming shot won’t contribute to the Edmonton Oilers ever again. After exploring trade options with him all summer, the Oilers have placed him on waivers. If no one claims him and his $5.4-million salary, Edmonton can send him to the minors. They can then bring him back-up on re-entry waivers so that any claiming team only has to pay half his salary.
