NHL news: Wild hire Mike Yeo as head coach
The Minnesota Wild have their new head coach: Mike Yeo. After serving as an assistant with the Pittsburgh Penguins for five seasons, including the 2009 championship year, he took over as coach of the AHL’s Houston Aeros.
He guided them to the Calder Cup final this season.
Finals break Canadian TV records
The freshly concluded Stanley Cup final crushed many a TV record in Canada and the U.S. Game 7 between Vancouver and Boston was the most watched NHL broadcast in CBC history, drawing an average of 8.76 million Canadian viewers. More than 8.5 million watched the game in the U.S. as well; Game 7 drew the largest NHL audience in almost 40 years.
Two stabbed, one critical, 150 injured in Vancouver riots
That was the good news. The bad news was, of course, the ugly riots that ensured in Vancouver after the Canucks lost Game 7. Seven people were arrested in Boston but that activity paled in comparison to the carnage of downtown Vancouver on Wednesday night. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
In the end, roughly 150 people were hospitalized following the violent Vancouver riots. Two people were stabbed and one man is listed in critical condition after suffering head injuries.
