MLB news: White Sox place John Danks on DL
Chicago White Sox starter John Danks is the latest major-league ballplayer to sufferer the dreaded oblique strain, which has quickly become the hottest injury of 2011.
He left Saturday’s start after just 1.2 innings and was placed on the 15-day DL. He’ll have an MRI today.
Danks is 3-8 but with a respectable 4.21 ERA on the year.
Davey Johnson named new Nats manager
After Jim Riggleman’s sudden resignation due to contract angst, Dave Johnson was officially named manager of the Washington Nationals on Sunday. He’ll helm the team for the rest of 2011 and, since he was already a consultant for the Nats, will help hire a successor after this season. Johnson hasn’t managed since 2000.
He is 1,148-888 over 14 seasons with the Mets, Reds, Orioles and Dodgers for his career.
Delmon Yong to DL
The Minnesota Twins had a nice surge back to respectability, going 15-2 after a disastrous start to 2011, but hard luck has returned. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
The Twinkies have lost five straight games, Justin Morneau is headed for next surgery and, over the weekend, outfielder Delmon Young sprained his ankle chasing down a flyball against the Milwaukee Brewers.
X-rays were negative but Young has been placed on the 15-day DL.
