MLB news: Fan dies after fall at Rangers game
Tragedy struck the Athletics/Rangers game last night at Rangers Ballpark. A fan died after he fell 20 feet from the stands. The accident occurred in the second inning.
Oakland’s Conor Jackson hit a ball that bounced into left field, Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton took the ball and threw it into the stands. 
The fan, whose identity was not released, fell head-first behind the 14-foot wall that houses the replay monitor and scoreboard. He was rushed to hospital and pronounced dead.
“We spoke to the ballclub, they understand what has happened, and we spoke to Josh,” said Rangers president Nolan Ryan. “I think as any of us would be, Josh is very distraught over this, as the entire team is.”
Jeter gets hit No. 2,998
New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter doubled off Jeff Niemann on Thursday night to notch career hit No. 2,998. When he reaches 3,000, he’ll be the 28th major-leaguer to do so.
Hall-of-Famer George Brett, a member of the 3,000 hit club, said Thursday that he thinks it will take Jeter several at bats to get No. 3,000 because of nerves.
“I think he’ll really, really have to breathe and relax and not really think about it,” Brett said.
“Once he does that, I think he’s going to be able to do it.”
