Sports News – MLB news: Ethier extends streak, injures elbow; Giants courting Jose Reyes? Choo arrested for DUI; Milton Bradley suspended

Milton Bradley suspended Again...

Andre Ethier extended his hitting streak to 29 games yesterday – but at a price. He was a late scratch from Wednesday’s lineup due to left elbow inflammation. His Dodger teammate, (ex?) closer Jonathan Broxton, is also shelved due to elbow pain. He’s been shut down for the foreseeable future.

Are the San Francisco Giants pursuing a major deal for Jose Reyes? They’re reportedly quite unhappy with Miguel Tejada and having been poking around asking about the star Mets shortstop. The two sides have had internal discussions. The Mets are reportedly shopping Reyes and perhaps even David Wright and Carlos Beltran, too.

Cleveland Indians outfielder Shin-Soo Choo was arrested early Monday morning for a DUI. He reportedly pulled over and asked an officer to help him find Avon Lake, Ohio. The officer followed Choo and eventually pulled him over after seeing him cross the yellow line twice and even veer into the bike lane on the other side of the road. A breathalyser test revealed that Choo’s blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.

Milton Bradley has been suspended yet again. The volatile outfielder got a one-game ban after being ejected from Saturday’s win over Boston for arguing a call with an umpire. He has appealed the decision.

NBA news: Deron Williams to play abroad? Dalembert to Knicks? Dante Cunningham arrested; Blake Griffin wins Rookie of the Year

If the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement expires on July 1, Deron Williams might play overseas. The Nets guard didn’t specify a country but said he’d explore playing abroad if no new CBA is struck. He has one year left on his contract.

It’s no secret that the New York Knicks want to improve their defense. Could the next piece of the puzzle be Samuel Dalembert? The soon-to-be free-agent center averaged 8.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks with Sacramento this past season. The Knicks are reportedly quite interested in signing him.

Charlotte Bobcats forward Dante Cunningham was arrested on Friday for speeding and reckless driving. After police pulled him over, they also discovered marijuana, a pipe and a loaded BB gun.

To no one’s surprise, Blake Griffin will be named the NBA’s Rookie of the Year today. The power forward was a beast in his first campaign with the Los Angeles Clippers, averaging 22.5 points, 12.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game.

NFL news: Ryan Mallett was “Charlie Sheen of the draft”; Tony Romo chasing U.S. Open dream again

While many armchair GMs scoffed at all the teams who passed on quarterback Ryan Mallett and let him fall to New England, the truth about his draft-day plummet is leaking out. One anonymous NFL general manager said Mallett dropped to the third round because “he was the Charlie Sheen of the draft.”

Mallett was more than 30 minutes late for a predraft meeting with the Tennessee Titans and rumors were rampant about him missing a meeting with Carolina because he partied too much the night before.

Tony Romo is staying busy during the lockout. Not only is the Dallas Cowboys quarterback getting married on May 28, he’ll also play an 18-hole qualifier for the U.S. Open on Monday.

NCAA football news: Florida cuts Janoris Jenkins; Russell Wilson granted release

The Florida Gators have had enough with troublemaking cornerback Janoris Jenkins. After speaking with him Tuesday morning, coach Will Muschamp tweeted that the team had dismissed him. The decision comes following Jenkins’ second drug-related arrest in three months.

North Carolina State had a talented quarterback leading the charge last season in Russell Wilson – but also one whose commitments extended beyond football. Wilson is also a baseball player. The Wolfpack have thus decided they want a quarterback who is solely dedicated to the football team. They’re going with Mike Glennon next season and have granted Wilson his release so he can play football at another school if he wants to.
