NFL news: Brett Favre, New York jets sued by massage therapists; Leslie Frazier to coach Vikings full-time

Leslie Frazier to coach Vikings full-time

It’s almost as if the latest alleged Brett Favre sexual harassment victims waited for the Jenn Sterger saga to end before immediately coming forward with their story.

Two former New York Jets massage therapists have sued Favre and the New York Jets for sexual harassment. Christiana Scavo and Shannon O’Toole claim Favre treated them like “hanging slabs of meat.” They also say Favre asked Scavo for her phone number one night and texted, “Kinda lonely tonight. I guess I have bad intentions.”

Leslie Frazier is no longer the interim head coach of the Minnesota Vikings. They’ve removed the tag and named him their official coach for 2011. They went 3-3 down the stretch after he took over for Brad Childress.

Three coaches on the hot seat – Tom Coughlin, Gary Kubiak and Jack Del Rio – appear to be safe. The Giants are giving Coughlin a new contract; the Texans fired four assistants but retained Kubiak; Del Rio will remain with the Jaguars but has been stripped of defensive playcalling privileges.

Brandon Jacobs’ (probable) final moments as a New York Giants running back were, um, less than dignified. While stuffing his belongs into a plastic bag and storming out of the locker room, he greeted reporters with:

“You’re all getting pictures of Brandon Jabos leaving, wondering if he’ll ever return. That’ll be your caption. F*ck you all.”

MLB news: Rockies sign Carlos Gonzalez to $80-million extension;  Mariners sign Miguel Olivo

Carlos “Cargo” Gonzales had a banner 2010 year for Colorado, batting .336 with 34 homers, 117 RBI and 26 stolen bases. The massive year earned him a massive paycheque. Colorado has finalized a seven-year, $80-million extension for the outfielder.

Seattle shored up its catching by adding Miguel Olivo this week on a two-year, $7-million deal. He batted .269 with 14 homers and 58 RBI; he played for the Mariners in 2004 and 2005.

NCAA football news: Blaine Gabbert declares for NFL draft

Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert has risen dramatically on quarterback prospect ranking boards in recent months, as high as second behind Andrew Luck according to some pundits, and it appears he’s ready to cash in. Gabbert, a junior, has declared for the 2011 NFL draft.

Gabbert passed for 3,186 yards and 16 touchdowns over 13 games this year, completing 63.4 per cent of his passes.
