This is a battle between two teams who are both dominant on both sides of the ball, and as a result, the point spread is less than a field goal with the game less than a week away.

Florida State

The Seminoles have two luxuries heading into this game. First and foremost, they have a Bye Week directly behind them, giving them energy heading into a big-time contest against the Tigers.

Additionally, this team has a ton of confidence, as its most recent matchup resulted in a 63-0 slaughter of the then-No. 25 Maryland Terrapins. The Seminoles haven’t lost a game this season, and they’re winning by an average margin of 41.6.

Clemson, on the other hand, while winning by an average margin of 24.6, is coming off of a contest that saw it barely scrape away with a win against Boston College. The spread definitely takes recent performances into account, but the Seminoles must be prepared for an aggressive pass attack come Saturday.

The Clemson Tigers are 10th in the nation in passing yards per contest. They’re averaging 342 yards per game through the air, compared to just 172.5 yards per game on the ground. The No.1 plan for Florida State has to be containing Taj Boyd. The Heisman hopeful will look to have a field day at home, and the Seminoles must be ready for his attack. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Clemson

Florida State also has a very good passing attack. The team is 18th in the county in passing yards per game, as Jameis Winston—another Heisman hopeful—has 17 touchdowns and just two interceptions. The problem for Clemson is that the Seminoles have a more balanced attack. Florida State has the 17th-best rushing game in the nation, as it is averaging 228.2 yards per contest on the ground.

For Clemson, this game has been circled on the calendar all year long. The Seminoles may be the favorites coming in, but the Tigers are the ones with home-field advantage and a whole lot to prove after the team fell 49-37 to Florida State last season.

The other fact that should give Clemson confidence is that FSU hasn’t won in Death Valley since 2001. That’s a long time for a top-five program, and it gives the Tigers a whole lot of confidence coming into this matchup.

If one thing’s certain, it’s that this will be one of the most entertaining contests of the weekend. It features two high-powered offenses, two powerful defenses and two Heisman Trophy candidates—one on each side. The Seminoles are arguably the more prestigious team at this point in the process, but the Tigers are the ones with the home-field advantage. Expect this one to be close, but don’t be shocked if it goes differently than the experts are predicting.

Score Prediction: Clemson 38 – Florida State 34
