Today’s Sports News – NFL news: Tom Brady named Offensive Player of the Year

Tom Brady named Offensive Player of the Year

In a likely preview of the NFL MVP award, Tom Brady was named 2010 AP Offensive Player of the Year yesterday. He was the right pick all the way after leading the league in passer rating, throwing 36 touchdowns versus four interceptions, and setting a new league record for consecutive pass attempts without an interception. Michael Vick and Arian Foster finished second and third in the voting.

NBA news: All-Star game to introduce skin-tight jerseys? No timetable for Andrew Bynum’s return

Is the NBA about to take a bold new fashion risk? The league will allow players to wear skin-tight jerseys at the upcoming All-Star game in the mold of compression jerseys that they usually wear under their game jerseys. If they catch on – could we return to the glory days of John Stockton-style short shorts? We need to see Shaq in those before he retires.

Andrew Bynum is back on the shelf with a bruised knee and Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson says there’s no timetable for his return. While Bynum is supposedly a game-time decision for Thursday’s game against San Antonio, Jackson said “I’m not so sure it’s going to be only one game,” so we shouldn’t expect to see him before the weekend.

MLB news: White Sox extend Alexei Ramirez

The White Sox have their shortstop locked up through 2015. They signed 29-year-old Alexei Ramirez to a four-year, $32-million extension yesterday. He batted .282 with 18 homers and 70 RBI last season, leading American League shortstops in batting average, slugging, homers and total bases.

NHL news: Avalanche/Blues game postponed due to weather

Make up your mind, winter storm. Is it going to be the Snowpocalypse or what? One minute, the snow starts falling; the next, it stops, Meteorologists had the city of St. Louis so spooked yesterday that the Blues’ game against the Colorado Avalanche was postponed. No immediate makeup date has been announced yet.
