The top two sides after three matches in the EPL are Chelsea and Swansea. For Chelsea this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as they will be a team that contends for the league title this season. Swansea have had an upstart opening leg to their campaign, taking all nine possible points.

Let’s take a quick look at how these two teams got to their perfect records and how this match will shake out.

Chelsea

The home side in this match have been flat out brilliant out of the gate and haven’t looked to be in any peril of surrendering points thus far. They opened their campaign on the road to Burley where they swept away the newly promoted club by a count of 3-1.

In their home opener they dispatched of Leicester 2-0, and their most recent game was a barn burner at Everton where they scored goals at will in a 6-3 victory.

Newly acquired striker Diego Costa has been a revelation for Chelsea and they seem to have found their talisman at striker that they’ve been sorely missing since Didier Drogba left town (he has returned this season to wind up his career). Costa leads the EPL with four goals in three matches and has contributed in no small part to Chelsea’s league leading 11 goals (five better than the next highest scoring team).

This side has looked fluid and effortless in their three matches, thanks largely to the addition of Cesc Fabregas in the midfield who looks like he never left the EPL, despite the fact that his last EPL match before this season was with Arsenal in 2011. Fabregas is tied for the league lead in assists with four.

Swansea

The Swans are the lone Welsh side in the EPL once again, after Cardiff City’s stint lasted just one season, but they are doing a fine job thus far in representing their nation.

Swansea have gotten off on the front foot with three straight wins, including an opening day victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford. Including their league cup match, the Swans have surrendered just one goal in four matches this year, that coming in their opener against Man U in a 2-1 victory.

They followed that up with a 1-0 win at home to Burley and a 3-0 win over West Brom.

English midfielder Nathan Dyer has been finding the net  early for the Swans, and with three goals in his last two league matches he trails only Chelsea’s Diego Costa for the league lead.

This side plays an attractive passing and possession brand of football, but they will be hard pressed to impose their game this weekend as Chelsea are just an all around stronger side man for man.

Swansea vs Chelsea Free Pick

History certainly favours Chelsea in this one, as the Blues have never lost a league match to Swansea.

Chelsea won both ties last year by a count of 1-0 and the Swans have not scored against Chelsea in their last four meetings.

The fact that Swansea have such a terrible time finding the net against Chelsea leads me to think that this is a no doubter for the Blues.

Chelsea Manager Jose Mourinho revealed this week that Costa and Eden Hazard returned from international duty with some minor injuries but even if they don’t suit up, the Blues have enough depth that a two goal victory should be attainable.
