Poised to tak advantage of Brazil’s misfortune is Germany who mythotically took apart France in the quarter-finals and looks as good in every aspect of the game as they have all tournament long.

Brazil has certainly gotten the short end of the stick as they head into the semi-finals with Germany but if any team can overcome a little adversity – it is the Brazilians. The loss of Neymar is huge – he has been the face of World Cup 2014 so far but another superstar, Oscar will have a chance to finally play in his more familiar position in Neymar’s absence.

Oscar has been a tad underwhelming thus far but has a chance to shine with a move back to his more familiar position. Bayern Munich defender Dante will likely act as an adequate replacement for Thiago Silva. Translation – Brazil’s insane depth will be on full display Tuesday with two players rthat could minimize the effect of the loss two of their most critical players. Brazil will also have holding midfielder Luiz Gustavo back from suspension to face Germany which should help a back end that has been a tad suspect so far. Gustavo plays his club football in Germany which should certainly help.

For Brazil to win Tuesday, players like Ocar, as already mentioned, Hulk and Fred are going to have to step up – and they are certainly capable of doing so. Added pressure will be on David Luiz to slow the German attack – Luis unlike the three previously mentioned has been very solid so far in the tournament leaving the Brazilians in good hands.

Germany has long been criticized for their attacking style coming at the expense of solid defending – something that has changed in this year’s World Cup. Germany enters Tuesday’s game having not surrendered a goal in their last three matches overall including their last game against a French squad that had been clicking offensively.

Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sami Khedira looked terrific in the German midfield – both were huestion marks before the tournament due to fitness level but have turned into strengths for this team. These two will be tasked with slowing a Brazilian attack and aiding in dictating the pace of the game. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will be there to snuff out any Brazilian pressure – he has certainly benefitted from some strong play by his defenders in the tournament.

Mesut Ozil and Mario Gotze have not been great so far – a break out by either seems iminent – doesn’t it? Thomas Muller (four goals in five games) has been terrific although his goal scoring pace has predictably slowed. goals have dried up in the past two games. Names like Andre Schurrle, Lukas Podolski and of course Miroslav Klose exist as good options up front for Germany.

Semi-Final Betting Prediction:

Brazil with Neymar and Silva would be an easy pick but the ommission of these two definitely closes the gap between the two teams. The Brazilians may have been able to cover up the fact that they will be without their emotional leader and their offensive catalyst earlier in the tournament but at this stage it is difficult to imagine. Germany has mythotically built to this stage – at this point they look like the more complete team.

Brazil will certainly benefit from the home twon crowd but won’t quite be at their best on the pitch. To beat the Germans, a team has to be at their absolute best!

Pick: Germany +180
