The course plays to a par of 71 at 7,255 yards and is annually one of the easiest par 71s the pros play each year. Although the course design caters to no one particular style of golf, a hot putter as always, GIR and decent ball striking will be nice attributes to have.

Obviously it is important to take a look at Strokes Gained Putting and Proximity stats ahead of this week as well.

Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Favorites:

Billy Horschel 12/1

Was absolutely sensational during the FedEx Playoff and plays for the first time since winning the last two events including the $10 million prize. Horschel was scorching hot but hasn’t played in a while. That said there is few better in sport right now. Billy absolutely has to be in the conversation this week.

Hideki Matsuyama 16/1

Is coming off a third place finish last week at the Frys.com Open while finishing T3 in greens hit and third in proximity. His putter let him down last week or maybe he wins going away. Matsuyama is one of the bigger names here and should contend.

Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Contenders:

Webb Simpson 20/1

The defending champion also had a fourth in this event in 2010. Simpson is a guy who traditionally plays well on courses he’s had success at – this being one of those tracks.

Ryan Moore 20/1

Local guy was very good last year – seven top 10s. He is a former champion here as well – back in 2012 and he followed that with a T9 last year. His putter is the key here – the rest of his game points to a very good result.

Jimmy Walker 20/1

Uncharacteristically delivered a dud last week – a 63rd place finish but TPC Summerlin is much more in his wheelhouse. He has finished T10 and T12 in the last two editions of this event – more of the same is expected this week.

[dfads params=’groups=63738&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

Martin Laird 28/1

Course history and current form has Laird looking like an interesting 28/1 this week. He won here in 2009 and lost in a playoff in 2010 and he has recorded a T6, T14 and a T3 (last week) in his last three tournaments overall. Translation – don’t sleep on Laird.

Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Sleepers (50/1 or higher):

Sang-Moon Bae 50/1

Won the Frys.com last week in impressive fashion leading the field in strokes gained putting – exactly what’s necessary on this track. Although I usually steer clear players that won the week before, there is no denying the confidence Bae gained. He makes his Shriners debut this week.

Ryo Ishikawa 66/1

Finished T2 in this event last year and was T19 at Silverado last week. He was masterful on the par 4s and if he can clean up his scores on the par 3s, Ishikawa has a decent chance.

2014 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open 4* Free Golf Pick:

It’s pretty hard not to go with Billy Horschel in this event but I am! Martin Laird at 28/1 is the pick. I just can’t get past the strong course history and the current form. He loves this track and is due for a win here.

My sleeper is Ryo Ishikawa at 66/1. He, like Martin Laird has a good history in this track and played well last week.
