PGA Betting – 2012 Wyndham Predictions
All of the Majors are in the books but that doesn’t mean that the Golf stops! This week the pros are in Greensboro, North Carolina at the Sedgefield Country Club for the Wyndham Championship. Sedgefield is known as one of the easier stops on TOUR – quite a difference from last week.
2012 Wyndham Championship
Location: Greensboro, North Carolina, United States
Course: Sedgefield Country Club
Date: Aug 16-19, 2012
Total Purse: US $ 5,200,000
Winner’s Share: US $ 936,000 (18% of total purse)
Defending Champion: Webb Simpson ($936,000)
Distance off the tee won’t be as critical as in the last few TOUR events – it will be accuracy, putting and that all-important ball striking stat that will be the difference. It is a slightly watered down field this week – let’s take a look at some of that names to keep an eye on.
The Favorites:
Jason Dufner 12/1
Has made a staggering 17 straight cuts and after an inconsistent week last week, you’d have to think that Jason is due for a bounce-back. He is seventh in greens in regulation and fifth in both birdie average and adjusted scoring on TOUR which speaks to his all around game. I love Dufner against this field on this easy plodding course.
Webb Simpson 12/1
The defending champion here will be looking for some revenge after missing the cut last week after a one month layoff. But the affects of that layoff may linger a tad longer – I expect Simpson to be in contention but to show the rust again.
Carl Pettersson 18/1
Won here in 2008 and finished fourth in this event in 2008 – needless to say he loves this track. He finished T3 last week and looked good in doing so – a few bad holes were his demise. He co-owns the course record here and is obviously playing at a high level right now.
The Contenders:
Brandt Snedeker 25/1
Is another former winner of this event but that wasn’t at this course – top 10s is 2009 and 2010. His game is well suited for this course – he is a terrific putter and his iron work is good too. On courses where length isn’t a priority Snedeker has to be on the list.
Tim Clark 33/1
Is looking more like the Tim Clark that we have come accustomed to. He has finished top 15 in two straight events. He is fifth on TOUR in driving accuracy and eight on TOUR in proximity. In his last three trips to Sedgefield he has top 25s including a T6 in 2008.
David Toms 33/1
Finished second here a couple of years ago and now has top 25s in each of his last three showings at Sedgefield. He also has three top 10s on TOUR since the middle of May with a scoring average during that span is 66.83. Toms was T42 last week at the PGA but had been playing very well prior to that.
Nick Watney 40/1
Hasn’t played this event since 2008 – a missed cut and he is coming off a missed cut at the PGA. Before last week Watney looked OK with five straight top 25 finishes. He is due and on this track he could get it done this week.
The Sleepers:
Blake Adams 66/1
Finished T7 last week and now has five top-25s in his last nine starts. He is 77th on the PGA TOUR in greens in regulation, 55th in Strokes Gained-Putting and 40th in birdie average but appears to be putting it all together at the end of the season.
Ken Duke 80/1
Has some scary numbers – 101st on TOUR in greens hit but 17th in Strokes Gained-Putting, 36th in birdie average and 34th in adjusted scoring. But Duke does have six top 10s this year and will certainly benefit from this simple track. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
John Daly 80/1
Ya – his pants are bad but his game is as good as it has been in a long while. He was T5 in Reno and T18 at the PGA and seems to be playing with a sense of calm not seen in a long time with Mr. Daly. His result last week puts Daly back on the PGA radar for sure.
The Pick:
My pick this week is Jason Dufner at 12/1. He has been playing well but hasn’t had a result in quite a while – he is due.
My sleeper is Ken Duke at 80/1. He has been solid at times this year and always seems to show up when the top dogs are absent.
