2012 PGA Betting – Tour Championship Preview & Pick

PGA FedEx Cup Betting – 2012 Tour Championship Predictions

Can anyone stop Rory McIlroy? Seriously? Rory won for the second consecutive week at the BMW and enters the final week of the FedEx as unquestionable the hottest golfer on the planet.

2012 TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola
Location: Atlanta, Georgia, United States
Course: East Lake Golf Club
Date: Sep 20-23, 2012
Total Purse: US $ 8,000,000
Winner’s Share: US $ 1,440,000 (18% of total purse)

Defending Champion: Bill Haas ($1,440,000)

The Top 30 in the points race move to Atlanta this week for one last kick at the $10 million first prize and the FedEx Cup.

Let’s take a look at those who we should keep our eye on – ya Rory is on that list!

McIlroy will look to break a recent trend that has seen the leading player in the FedEx Cup standings entering the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola fail to win the FedEx Cup title. Keep in mind that the top five points leaders could win the overall title with a win at East Lake.

Rory McIlroy 5/4

Two wins in a row for Mr. McIlroy has him atop the standings. Nobody is hotter on TOUR! McIlroy has never played this event but there is little reason to worry about him this week. He is playing perhaps the best golf of his life… and that is saying something. If he wins the TOUR Championship he wins the Cup, he has a reasonable chance of winning with a top-5 finish and he can finish as low as 29th and still have a mathematical chance of winning

Tiger Woods 3/1

Woods enters the TOUR Championship second in the standings and can win it all with a victory this week. He had one bad round last week – on the weekend as per usual. But if he can put it all together and find some consistency Woods could erase the years of misery! He won this event in 1999 and 2007. If he wins the TOUR Championship he wins the Cup, he has a reasonable chance of winning with a top-3 finish and he can finish as low as a 3-way tie for 6th and still have a mathematical chance of winning.

Phil Mickelson 13/2

Phil finished second last week for his best result in some time. He is number four in the standings heading into this week and like four others entered he controls his own destiny. Mickelson won at East Lake as recently as 2009 and is in good form for sure. If he wins the TOUR Championship he wins the Cup, he has a reasonable chance of winning with a 2nd place finish and he can finish as low as T-3 and still have a mathematical chance of winning.

Others to consider this week include Dustin Johnson at 12/1. He has been knocking on the door in every event in the FedEx Cup playoff and may be due for a win, Louis Oosthuizen at 15/1 who has also been very impressive of late and Nick Watney at 20/1 who will have the motivation of a possible $10 million paycheck with a victory. If he wins the TOUR Championship he wins the Cup, he has a reasonable chance of winning with a 2nd place finish and he can finish as low as T-4 and still have a mathematical chance of winning.

Keegan Bradley 50/1 is a decent sleeper to win the tournament this week. At 50/1 he could pay you off royally.

The Field (Any Other Golfers) is listed at 8/1

Are you betting against Rory? I’m not!
