PGA 2012 RBC Heritage Preview/Picks & Gambling Lines

PGA Betting – The 2012 RBC Heritage Predictions

Well, it is going to be hard to beat the drama that happened at Augusta last weekend but the show must go on. This week many of the top golfers in the world are taking the weekend off after an exhausting four days in Georgia.

RBC Heritage
Location: Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, United States
Course: Harbour Town Golf Links
Date: Apr 12-15, 2012
Total Purse: US $ 5,700,000
Winner’s Share: US $ 1,116,000 (20% of total purse)

Defending Champion: Brandt Snedeker ($1,026,000)

Hilton Head, South Carolina and Harbour Town Golf Links hosts the PGA TOUR as the pros vie for the Plaid Jacket at the RBC Heritage.

The #1 ranked player in the world returns to Hilton Head looking to avenge a second place finish to Brandt Snedeker last year. Power, accuracy and greens in regulation are essential at Harbour Town which ranks as one of the shortest but one of the more difficult stops on TOUR.

Let’s take a look at the players that should contend this week and who should be wearing the gaudy Plaid Jacket on Sunday.

The Favorites:

Luke Donald 7/1

This is Donald’s tournament to win – and he has come very close in the very recent past with two seconds and a third place finish in the last three years. Donald is strong off the tee, has elite iron play and possesses one of the best putters on the planet. Ya, Donald is well suited for this course!

Matt Kuchar 14/1

Kuchar also has a good track record at Harbour Town – seven straight made cuts and four straight top 25s. Kuchar gained a ton of confidence last week and was in striking distance of his first Green Jacket. He has four straight top 10’s and has a boat load of momentum going into the RBC Heritage.

Jim Furyk 18/1

Furyk won this event in 2010 and also has two second place finishes and a fourth in his last seven appearances. His game is perfectly suited for Harbour Town – strong off the tee, great iron play and a terrific putter. Furyk is playing well at the moment as well – 11th last week at Augusta, a T11 at Bay Hill the week before and a second at Copperhead the week before that.

The Contenders:

Bo Van Pelt 20/1

Recorded a very impressive 64 on Sunday at the Masters with a hole-in-one at 16! He finished third here as recently as two years ago and has three top 15s in six starts on this course. He is a good ball striker which bodes well at Harbour Town.

Webb Simpson 22/1

Simpson has had a bad knack of blowing up on Sundays the last two weeks – 78s at Bay Hill and at Augusta but his game is well suited for Harbour Town. He has finished T14 in two straight years here and could be one to watch.

Aaron Baddeley 28/1

Was OK last week at Augusta but has a good track record in South Carolina. With a win and a second place finish at Harbour Town, Baddeley has to be on the radar.

Brandt Snedeker 28/1

Won this event last year with a late charge. He was good last week at Augusta (T19) and he does have a win on TOUR already at the Farmers. Snedeker is currently 13th on TOUR in scrambling and 51st in Strokes Gained-Putting – good traits for a player hoping to repeat!

Ernie Els 28/1

Els had the week off unlike many of the contenders which could give him a leg up. He is playing very well at the moment – two top fives and a T12 in his last three starts and he does have seven top 10s in 12 starts on this track. However, Els did miss the cut here last year.

Jason Dufner 40/1

Dufner looked great at Augusta until the weekend when a 75-75 finish saw him slip to 24th. He finished T14 in this event last year and currently has top 30s in his last 4 stroke-play events. Surprisingly Dufner ranks seventh on TOUR in total driving, 41st in greens hit and 45th in scrambling and could be the surprise of the tournament this week.

The Sleepers:

Brian Davis 50/1

Davis comes into the RBC Heritage as one of the hotter players on TOUR – consecutive T4s at Bay Hill and in Houston and he does have a good track record at this event – four top 25s in six appearances including an ugly late Sunday meltdown in 2010 to take him out of the running. Davis may be the most under-the-radar entry at this year`s RBC Heritage.

Boo Weekley 55/1

It is rather hard to believe that a two-time winner of this event (2007, 2008) is 55/1. Weekly has played in two events this year and has posted top 15s. Weekly ranks fifth on TOUR in ball striking and could be in the hunt again this week.

Brian Gay 70/1

Gay likes this course as demonstrated by his staggering 10 stroke victory here in 2009. He is currently fourth on TOUR in scrambling and 34th in Strokes Gained-Putting.

Ricky Barnes 90/1

Barnes is another player that is OK everywhere else but good at Harbour Town – two top fives in as many starts. Barnes has the game perfectly suited for this track.

Mark Wilson 100/1

Wilson seems to show up on the leaderboard of every event he plays and he is 100/1? I have had Wilson as a sleeper before but on a course where his lack of power won’t be a detriment, Wilson may be worth a shot!

The Pick:

It is hard not to love the way Matt Kuchar looked last week. He could have won at Augusta and he should be motivated to continue his strong play this week. Kuchar at 14/1 is my solid pick this week.

My sleeper is Mark Wilson at 100/1… again. He is not that long but he won’t need to be. His irons and putter will keep him near the top!
