Day 2 of the Olympic Men’s Hockey tournament features the defending Gold Medalists Sweden facing off against a team that some feel could surprise with a Top six place in the best Hockey tournament ever. The betting lines are out showing, for good reason, that the Swedes are favored in this game.

Team Sweden enters the 2010 Men’s Olympic Hockey tournament with the taste of Olympic Gold still fresh in their mouths. This year’s edition figures to be right in the medal hunt, but even they realize that they are a notch below the two favorites, Canada and Russia. The Swedes still boast a talented lineup and are strong at every position.

The Defending Champions kick off their Olympic tournament with the knowledge that they have some of the Hottest NHL players on their roster. Henrik and Daniel Sedin, Daniel Alfreddson, and Henrik Zetterberg are among the NHL elite at the Forward position and Nicklas Lidstrom is still regarded as the best defenseman in the world. Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook The Goaltender that Sweden rode to the Gold medal in Torino, Henrik Lundquist is still the main man for the Swedish team, but he is not enjoying the sort of campaign that instills confidence in Team Sweden’s fans.

Still, the Swedes have enough firepower and enough depth at the Defensive position to defeat the Germans who did not get even one taste of Olympic victory in the last Olympics. Sweden is a veteran group of returning players who will be looking for a solid start to their Gold Medal defense. Tomas Holmstrom will not play for the Swedes this year because of injury, but a more than capable Johan Franzen will take his place in the lineup.

Team Germany is another in a long list of teams that will act as “tune up teams” for the tournament favorites. They do have six NHL caliber players on the roster, but outside of Christian Erhoff, these NHLers are second and third tier performers on their own teams. San Jose backup Goaltender Thomas Greiss will probably get the start in net for the Germans but will be hard pressed to keep the likes of Peter Forsberg (remember him???) and company off the score sheet. Germany is a minor league team in comparison to the Swedes and should follow up on their Olympic losing ways.

For betting purposes, the Moneyline should not be touched. Betting $5000 to win $100 is absolutely ridiculous. Outside of the Moneyline, there are some intriguing betting options. The Spread is currently set at 3.5 – a number that the Swedes should be able to reach with ease. Anything else would be a disappointment frankly.

The over/under of 5.5 is also very attainable. One has to think that the game will feature more than 6 goals.

This game has all the makings of a 6-1 final score meaning that the Spread and the over/under should be decent bets.
