The Gold Medal favorite Team Canada plays its second Round Robin game on Thursday night in what will act as a second warm up game for the real competition that will start on Sunday against their arch rivals – The United States. Game two pits the powerhouse Canadians against a team that they have traditionally had some trouble with – Switzerland.

Team Canada (1-0) started out slowly in their first game of the Olympic tournament as predicted. They showed signs of obvious nerves at the outset of their game with Norway but came on in the second period when their firepower and skill took over. Their first game was no test for Team Canada, but Thursday night’s game figures to be quite a bit more competitive.

Switzerland has always played Canada tough for some reason in Olympic competition and in World championships as well.

Coach Mike Babcock appeared to have his lines set as early as this summer during Team Canada’s training camp in Calgary but acknowledged early on in their first game one that his combinations needed a little tweaking. After all, that is what the Round Robin is for. He moved Jarome Iginla onto the first line with Rick Nash and Sidney Crosby while moving Patrice Bergeron to the third line. It’s a subtle change, but one that paid off – Iginla scored three goals and was dominant in the game. Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

The defensive pairings for Canada seem set – they appeared cohesive and strong both in the offensive zone and in the defensive end of the rink. There will be a change for the Canadians and it will be at the goaltender position. Martin Brodeur will draw the start over the effective Roberto Luongo who stopped all 15 shots he faced against the Norwegians. Thursday’s game will be Brodeur’s audition and will establish who will be Canada’s goaltender for the rest of the tournament. Team Canada is poised, potent and productive in every aspect of the game.

Team Switzerland (0-1) played fairly well against the Americans on Tuesday night, but their lack of firepower was clearly evident. Without any real goal scoring threat, the Swiss will be dominated. Team Switzerland will employ their defensive trap style just like they did against the Americans in the attempt to stifle the Canadian speed. Even though the Swiss have a history of close-ish games against Canada, Team Switzerland’s lack of firepower will likely be their downfall.

This game should be a blowout.

One reply on “Switzerland vs Canada – Gambling Picks 2010 Olympic Hockey”

With the Winter Olympics not nearly being as popular as the Summer
Olympics, not many people know “who to watch for” when each day comes
up. I mean, I like to know before event’s start who is the favourite
in the Men’s Luge or Woman’s Aerial Ski Jumping. It’s tough, but
fortunately TheCoach has provided an in depth guide of who to watch
for and medal hopeful’s each day. I mean, yeah you know the hockey
players, and people like Shaun White due to the X-Games, and former
medalists from past games… but who are the up and comers to watch
for?

Best of luck to all athletes.
